The GOP House committee lies, including specifics like the supposed twenty shell companies, were specifically refuted with facts and cites in threads that Sam brought them up in. And he did it again, just in the last day it two - repeating the same old debunked lies.

In this last shit-show of a pile-on, what did I do to start it? What bad cites did I offer? What lies?
I offered actual cites for two specific claims in two threads. One was a variation of, “There is not one bit of evidence that Joe had anything to do with Hunter’s business”, which I beleive is a DNC talking point repeated uncritically. I provided evidence, and got dumped on. To clarify once again evidence is not proof. I never claimed Hunter or Joe was guilty - I just provided the evidence that is being used to start a formal investigation. This should be absolutely non-controversial. You know, trying to fight ignorance. I didn’t say anything snarky or rude, I didn’t violate a board rule, and the cite said what I claimed it said.
The second was the statement that ‘almost no one goes to jail for tax fraud.’ I provided the best cite possible: a source document from the Sentencing Commission showing that 67% of people convicted of tax fraud do jail time.
Then of course the threads started devolving into sealioning, personal attacks, etc. I respond to a dozen demands for various cites, which I provide.
Then the complaints that -I- am the distraction come in.
The problem is that there is a handful of posters who are not here to fight ignorance - they are here to fight anyone from the right. They don’t argue in good faith, and they don’t stop. And there’s a larger group of people who simply take their cues from the others and follow along.
These are the people ruining any political topics on this board. They are the ones waiting to leap on anyone who might not be of their political tribe and hound and mock them as much as possible, hoping to drive them away or shut them up about politics. They get away with it because their opinions are on the majority side on this board, so unless people like me come along with opinions they don’t like they get along fine. Then someone posts from the right, they dive bomb the thread with sophistry and insults, and the original poster gets blamed for trolling or stirring up shit or whatever. They get mad, act rashly and give the other side ammo, and we’re off to the races. I have seen this pattern play out many times on this board.
Tell you what: If you start a thread and explicitly ask people on the right to stay out, I’ll stay out. Start an entire board section called, “Left wing only politics” and I’ll never comment on any thread in it, so long as it’s not used to hurl insults at me. At least then we’ll be explicit that what you really want to do here is confirm each other’s biases and mood affiliation and create a ‘safe space’ where you will not hear anything you might disagree with that would ‘ruin’ your experience.
And I’ll point out that there were multiple rules violations in those threads, and not one of them came from me. But somehow, I’m the one in the wrong. “Stop making us hit you!”

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line two baking sheets with silicone baking mats or parchment paper. In a large bowl, using a mixer, cream together the butter and sugars for 1 minute. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until combined.

Add the flour, baking soda and salt and stir mix just until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and M&M’s. Refrigerate dough for 15 to 60 minutes (up to 24 hours) if time allows.

Using a large cookie scoop (about 3 Tablespoons), scoop the cookie dough onto the baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Place extra M&M’s on the top of the cookies if desired.

Bake for 7-10 minutes, or until the edges are barely golden brown. Allow cookies to set on pan for 2 minutes, and then remove to a cooling rack. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
