Since I don’t know you from Adam, and you clearly have nothing to say about Sarah Palin (as opposed to, um, me, who doesn’t know you from Adam), I guess we’re done here.
He seemed to be trying to control himself, and did so very well except for the few moments when he was overcome. I have no problem believing that someone can still be deeply affected by the death of his wife and daughter 36 years ago.
To echo the sentiment expressed upthread, quite frankly, I want the people at the highest level of government to be smarter than I am. I’m never going to have dinner with Biden or Obama, most likely, but I will be seriously affected by how good they are at doing their jobs. I don’t care how personable they are. I want them to be overwhelmingly competent, and Sarah Palin has certainly not shown that she’s competent.

Personally, I listen to what they say and read what they write. And also consider what other people say and write about them. I’m not saying it’s the best method, but it works well for me.

That’s not true at all. I learned that you can’t think of some defense for her demeanor. And that disliking that demeanor is “partisan”. Which implies that someone here believes that all Republicans are yokels. For the record, that person isn’t me.

First off, objectively, the man is a terrible jet pilot.

I think that was genuine. Biden’s a pretty devoted family man; takes the train home to Delaware every night. (Maybe Amtrak will get some proper funding in the Obama/Biden administration.)
I don’t really care about candidates’ personal quirks, nor whether Palin’s folksiness was real or fake. I care about the policies they’ll be behind when they’re in office – for Christ’s sake, why do people base their votes on personality?
