A Simpsons Movie? How should it be?

So let’s make some lemonade out of this lemon of an idea. . .

The family is in a movie theater, or some other screening room-type situation, MST-ing Rupert Murdoch’s home movies.

Stop right there. The first season, like most first seasons, had it’s charm, but was not the show’s pinnacle. The best episodes exist in the 3rd to 9th season.

Its. Had its charm. Someone kill me.

I have long followed the homage to “Citizen Kane” that has persisted in “The Simpsons” over the years. Some Dopers have suggested that a reasonable shot-by-shot recontruction of a good chunk of Kane could be assembled from Simpsons episodes. It would be really great if the movie was in fact a full reconstruction, but with a Simpson take on it.

But it can’t be done as they already did a fine Kane episode (with “Bobo”). (Which I viewed this very evening.)

I strongly suspect that some classic film will be used as a basis for a lot of the “mis en scene”. Different story, completely different dialouge, but still recognizable.

Well this was posted at another forum that I often post at:

Producer Talks Simpsons Movie
Finally? Details inside…

February 10, 2004 - Fans of The Simpsons will be pleased to hear that the fictional families’ trip to the big-screen is finally becoming a reality. The DVDFanatic website recently spoke with one of the show’s producers and veteran writers, Mike Reiss.

He told the site, “Al [Jean] and I and five other veteran writers of the show are currently writing The Simpsons movie. … They’ve wanted to do this since season two. It’s been 13 years of wanting to do The Simpsons Movie. Finally FOX said, ‘Let’s just do it!’ We never had the greatest idea that was compelling but FOX said, ‘Maybe if we start paying you, you’ll get inspired.’ And sure enough it worked! We’ve got a very good and interesting idea and it’s different from the show. You know, it’s like the South Park movie where it’s just a bigger, longer, amplified version of the show. I can’t tell you anything specific about it. My wife doesn’t even know the secret.”

Story details remain under wraps, but executive producer Al Jean has commented that the entire principal cast for the series has signed on for no less than three Simpsons films.

The release of the first film is still a couple of years away. Reiss says, “I think it’s going to be Summer 2006 or maybe Christmas 2006. It’s a reality after being just sort of this phantom idea. I think it is really gonna happen.”

Sounds good to me. I hope Moleman is in it  .

Following my previous post about basing the movie on a classic film:

The Seven Samurai/The Magnificent Seven!!!

A band of ne’er do wells are hired to rescue their humble town from the evil overlords.

The Seven would be: Homer, Ned, Moe, Barney, Lenny, Carl and, and, and …?

The evil group would be lead by Burns and include Fat Tony, Wiggum, and Quimby. Throw in Snake, Sideshow Bob, etc. if you want to make it an army.

Non-humble people like Krusty, Wolfcastle, Brockman, and such, couldn’t be in the Seven.

Ned has to be in the Seven so you can have someone who can explain “moral redemption” to the others in monosyllabic words.

Who would be the Seventh? Smithers wouldn’t go against Burns. Abe is too old and out of it. Comic Book Guy-forget that. Kirk Van Houten ditto (well, maybe not?). Apu, Skinner, etc. are not ne’er do well enough. They, like Dr. Hibbert would have to be in the class of “townsfolk.” Otto would be scraping the bottom of the barrel. Herman and Willie are actually useful.

Hardcore nudity.

What should the Simpsons movie be about? I had an idea

Burns and Smithers will finally consumate their relationship in a long and very graphic scene.
