A small plane crashed into Stone Mountain.

I hope it was no one we know.

“Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater extent than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect.”

My first thought upon hearing the news on the radio this morning was “Now there’s a stupid terrorist”. I would blame that thought on the media’s pounding of the “Was it terrorist related?” question at every opportunity. Truth be told, though, that’s just the way my brain has always worked.

I just left Kennesaw, GA yesterday. Sad about the death, hope it was no one my sister knows, and I hope no damage was done to the monument.

Here’s another link, giving a map and a photograph of the crash site.

According to a report on the radio today, an eyewitness reported the plane was doing aerobatics shortly before the crash. Apparently, it was a Beechcraft Bonanza, and the pilot was the only person on board.

As of 1:30 today, eastern time, the name of the pilot had not been released.

Man! That is such a traumatic event for anyone who saw it, or any locals. A couple of years ago a small plane crashed into a house in my small town. Ever since then, every time I hear a plane go overhead I think it is going to crash. (There’s an airport about 10 miles from us.)

Fortunately, I live close to the heli-pad for our local hospital. The end of their flight path is DIRECTLY over my house. Doesn’t bother me at all… :frowning: :shudder:
