Not much going on here. Summer class is proving to be quite easy, so much so that I’ve taken up drawing again to fill the twice-weekly 150 minute lectures without going crazy. It turns out I’m better than I remembered; my current project is character drawings for the webcomic my roomie Alex and I want to eventually write.
I got my final grades from the Spring semester as well; A’s in Calc III and my elective class, B’s in Physics II and Dynamics. Cumulative UMBC GPA as a mechanical Engineering major: 3.4. I can live with that.
Other than that, nothing much. I made three or four new friends this week, all of whom live in my town, so that’s cool. And I’ve been doing legos. That plus internets have occupied most of my non-sleeping and non-classing time. thinks Oh yeah, and I got a haircut yesterday that looks good on me, and I’m picking up my new glasses tomorrow. New look ftw!
You guys think it would count as “cruelty to the neighbors” if I took the headset off the computer and let that song blast? It’s 6am.
Speaking of songs, one of my favorite groups as of lately (although they like repeating songs from a record to another… that seems to be a “heavy metal” kind of thing) is Mägo de Öz. The last record I got includes a drinking song (what?) called “Resacosix (parte 2)”, something like “morning after (part 2)” which isn’t in their usual style but it’s cool.
Yesterday I realized it’s a cover of Queen’s '39 that’s cheating! But, from guys called Wizard of Oz whose attire includes top hats and kilts and whose debut album had covers of Over the Rainbow and Boney M’s Belfast… gee, as their covers go, Resacosix is conservative.
Here’s one character sketch. The character is Goon Squad heavy-weapons expert Kung Pow. It’s a pretty crappy sketch, and my scanner did it no favors either, but hey, it was done during my last Thermo lecture lol.
I still need to do sketches of Ghetto Blaster, the African-American demolitions expert, and Cracker, the pasty-white computer geek and gadget whiz. Plus Alex’s and my characters, and the Goon Squad’s boss, the incompetent supervillain Lord Umbrekant.
You really need to stop letting other people’s crappy attitudes get to you. It’s what they’re trying to accomplish in the first place, anyway
Dunno… Never liked doing it, especially when the Startup I was working for at the time got merged back into the Mobile Operator that spun it off in the first place… Have you ever worked for a TelCo…?
Basically, after that happened, I bailed to another startup, where I don’t have to manage people anymore, as soon as I could find something interesting without taking a pay cut. I’m still here after more than 5 years
Nope
Lev (לב)
Incidentally, “Dodi Li” originally meant something like “My lover is mine.” Except in Modern Hebrew it means “My uncle in mine”
W00t!
Nice. I bit “hard” for my taste, but not bad at all. How is it that all the good Metal seems to be coming out of Finland in the past few years…?
Linky to their youtube channel. No video for Resacosix there, but there’s one from a fan for part 1 here and this one is for part 2 (the one that’s Queen’s '39)
Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ on a rainy and soon to be stormy mornin’. Supposed to rain all day, tonight and tomorrow which is a good thing. Besides, if’n I’m at work, it might as well rain, right?
Glad classes are goin’ well Moonie. Be sure to post a pic of the new look so we can all admire.
Time for more caffiene and some brekkies followed by work purtification.
That video for Resacosix en Hispania ends with the beginning of Astaroth. This is a video for Astaroth where the starting riff isn’t its usual bright self but I guess we can blame it on the axeman being distracted by what was to come.
Lawnmower issues are no fun. Which is why I’m trying to minimize my lawn…
Book group last night - and I stayed awake until 10:30 without any problems. Yay! And I’m even pretty much awake today. Double-yay!!
Seem to be getting back into my regular schedule pretty quickly. Triple-yay!!!
Up and caffeinating although not heading in to work today. My tummy is rumbling and not in a good way and I have a headache. I think it’s probably just a precursor to a cold (unfortunately!) but I’m feeling bad enough to stay in bed today. I’ll probably go in tomorrow … after all, it will be FIRDAY then.
Sorry about the lawnmower issues. It’s supposed to be rainy here all day today, into tonight and then stormy tomorrow as well. We had HUGE thunderstorms overnight…by Saturday, I suspect there will be plenty of lawnmowers trying to work. LOL
It’s nearly the weekend (well in my book it is!) and the weather’s cooled down enough that it’s possible to sleep at night again. Last night I went out for beerverages with friends, celebrating and commiserating. My friend L has a birthday today (yay) and yesterday found out that she’s being made redundant from her job (boo) so it was a night of mixed feelings. She knows she’s the only one from her unit going, but the HR dept haven’t officially told her when she’s finishing and stuff like that so things are a bit uncertain for her.
In other news, I’ve just spoken to my Shiny New Boss and she’s happy for me to take Monday off. I do like people who say yes when they’re supposed to!
Tomorrow will be a short day at work, it’s Firday and we always finish early - in the evening I’ll be off to see a band called Tyketto so that will be lots of fun. If you spot someone in the corner drooling over the singer, that’ll be me…and this weekend it’s Rock am Ring in Germany too. More excitement than I can shake a proverbial stick at.
Rainy day here, which kinda sucks because tonight is graduation. Usually we have it on campus and it’s really pretty. But when it rains we have to go to the local Catholic High School gym… not very pretty.
And tomorrow is the Scholarship Golf Tourney. I don’t play (hah!) but I sit on the deck and drink with the other “volunteers”. Supposed to rain tomorrow too. Darn.
No rain here, but we got a “cool” front so the humidity is down. That’s always nice.
ReboSon came over last night to hit me up for a tank of gas. He should be finishing up his first round of drafting classes this Friday, and then goes to the next level. He has (another!) new job, but this one actually pays a paycheck instead of trying to live on tips. He’ll be a cook! Huzzah!
I have some work to do finally, so boos, yays, hugs, wet trout and chocolate to anyone who needs them…
Boo, on the bad old lawnmower. I have noticed our backyard grass has been shrinking as Mr. Anachi hates mowing it. I expect soon we will be reduced to plant islands, mulch, pool and gravel pathways.
Sounds like it’s gonna be a rainy day all up the East Coast. Here as well. Better now than the weekend.
Why, yes, yes I have.
Fortunately, that was about 3 jobs back and only long enough to 1) realize I hated it, 2) figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and 3) get accepted in to grad school.
Hmmm, tacos with tzatziki. I don’t see a problem with that either.
We’re on a Greek kick now as I marinaded some chicken in lemon, white wine, oil and spices and then we grilled it and ate it on pitas with some of the aforementioned tzatziki. It was quite good if I do say so myself. The leftovers will be tonight’s dinner so that’s Greek food 3 nights in a row!
I am not off to a productive start at all. How is it that somedays I can really focus and get a ton done, and other days I don’t want to do anything more strenuous than reading the Dope?
I just wrote an entire report on a document I emailed myself. I opened the document but didn’t save it to my computer. Wrote the whole thing (clicking save), closed it out and then realized it was in the temp folder the whole time.
