A sushi roll for every state

Pretty much what I was here to add!

Except it has to be called the Hawkeye Roll, of course.

Dammit, where is the Skyline chili?!

I would say Missouri is too boring to have a sushi roll of its own, but since the paddlefish is one of the state fish (channel cat ebing the other. with several “states” alrady claiming the catfish), I’d say something with paddlefish roe and Missouri rice. Served with Budweiser.

Georgia roll: slices of marinated smallmouth bass with fresh slivers of cucumbers and Vidalia onions with a light peanut sauce, maybe topped with a thin slice of peach.

Pfeh, bugger that. Two things we don’t have*, one that nobody’s ever heard of, and a fungus? Nope. Ham and chopped peanuts. Hell, I’d eat it.

For the Upstate New York roll — since both upstaters and NYC denizens would agree that they’re separate entities — it’ll be lake trout and Michigan sauce. Kind of a rice-y fish taco sorta thing. Who knows, it might not suck.

*Yeah, there are technically Virginia crabs. Call me when somebody outside of the Chesapeake area is proud to advertise carrying them.

The Utah roll would have to be cutthroat trout and asparagus wrapped in funeral potatoes with a jell-o and cool whip sauce.

Alaska: Opilio crab, cod, wrapped in whale blubber

Anayongs (I think its spelled like that) - I love that place. There’s good sushi and excellent calimari in Rock Springs at Bonzai.

Mississippi needs something with crawdads in it.

Or maybe a Mississippi Muffaletta sush roll.

There’s a the musubi form, but there is also a makizushi roll. Musubi are much more common – you can find them everywhere, in restaurants, convenience stores, snack stands – but makizushi tends to be sold sushi-specializing places. Usually it’s spam with wasabi or mayonnaise.

For Hawaii, I think a loco moco roll would be awesome. It already comes with rice, and scrambled egg is no stranger to sushi. Just sliver the beef patty and add just enough brown gravy to taste.

…Glob help me, I kind of want to try this.

A more realistic rural Georgia roll would be catfish around overcooked sticky rice covered in brown gravy.

And to truly be representative, you are going to need a square cheeseburger in the mix.

Ham (not SPAM) and scalloped potatoes, rolled in pretzel crumbs.

Illinois Roll - smelt wrapped in corn.

For the non fish eaters - Italian Beef wrapped in corn.

Connecticut Roll- a rock, nutmeg and rice wrapped in bittersweet.

I didn’t even know Illinois did smelt. I thought smelt runs only happened in colder lands. Ignorance fought.

How cold does cold have to be? Chicago is pretty damn cold in the winter and the smelt come from Lake Michigan in the early spring. A lot of local restaurants will have smelt on the menu on Fridays during lent, even the local pizza place I used to go to.

I say that it should be ham, wrapped in a pierogi, with some fries sticking out of the middle.

South Carolina roll: Smoked sausage and shrimp wrapped in extra sharp cheddar cheese grits

Close to what I was thinking…

Oregon Roll: Trout, sturgeon eggs, and marionberry glaze.
