I recently saw the movie “The Score” and I thought of something that has been bothering me for a while now. Why did De Niro need Norton (sorry I don’t remember their character names) to break into the safe if he had done it right away? Norton’s whole function was to shut off the security alarms that would give De Niro access to the basement, but De Niro went in through the basement where there were no alarms to begin with. If De Niro had just acted right away before they installed the alarms he could have done the whole thing without any help from Norton. I realize that Norton played some role in setting up the steal to begin with and getting De Niro the plans but they kept making it sound like he was going to be part of the actual robbery but I see no reason why. Does Norton do something to help get De Niro in that involved a skill that nobody else had?
I think the idea was that he was the “inside man” and had keys and access to the place… otherwise it would have been really difficult to pull it off.
It was a great movie, i just saw it… i recommend to all!
There were alarms in the basement storage area all along (including, IIRC, a system of light beams around the central safe). It was Edward Norton’s job to cut these alarms in sequence to allow Robert DeNiro access to the particular cage where the scepter was being stored. The problem arose when additional security/cameras were added after they’d formulated their basic plan.
