a threat from David B.??

This isn’t a flame, more like a surprised, baffled reaction at this post directed at me in GD from David:

I’m NOT trusting the cgi, dammit.

Fine. Then next time we have to go through and delete out extra messages, don’t be surprised if all the copies of yours are deleted – not just the dupes. Further, if you insist on posting what you know to be dupes, don’t be surprised if your access to this message board is suspended.
I trust I’ve made myself perfectly clear.

You know, that’s the only time I’ve ever double posted. I apologized beforehand, but the thing was, it timed out. As anyone who was on here yesterday knows, the board was having some serious problems. I tried posting the message, hit reply, and after about five minutes, it just timed out. So I tried it one more time. That was it. I didn’t keep trying and trying to submit it. Obviously, there was a problem because it showed up more than twice.

Sorry, I made a mistake, but I don’t think that really necessitated threats of being kicked off the board. It’s not like I’m a troll posting “what’s your breast size?” posts in GD.

Please try to have a little more patience and not fly off the handle at simple mistakes.

Thank you.

I think that authority gives him a chub.

Krispy Original - I survived the SDMB outage

I think DavidB was taken aback by your blatant and advertised disregard for the mantra “trust the cgi”. Since DavidB and other moderators spend enough time and energy cleaning up the double posts people make by accident, it is aggravating to hear you say that you are knowingly ignoring the advice that prevents you from double posting.

And you know what happened when you didn’t trust the cgi? You double posted!

We all make mistakes, but you chose to do something that mods have kindly requested that you not do. Don’t be a jerk.

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

And I think that criticizing DavidB makes your nipples hard.

No, it’s just a little cold in here…

Krispy Original - I survived the SDMB outage

I went back and checked the post several times to make sure it wasn’t on there before I tried again (and yes, I know that they don’t always show up right away…but if it had at least gone back to “your reply was received” instead of timing out while still showing the message I had just typed, that would have been a different story). As evidenced by the thread that’s in Great Debates about the problems that were occuring yesterday, I know I wasn’t the only one who had the same problem. This is the only time I have EVER double-posted. In addition, I have never been anything but a rule-following, polite, NON-jerk while on these boards.

I apologize for making the mistake. (as I apologized when I did it, which wasn’t quoted in David’s post).

My point was, I don’t think it warranted the threat of being kicked off the board. It seems akin to a cop roughing up someone suspected of kicking a dog when there’s someone across the street getting raped and murdered.

I realize David is just doing his job and that the moderators probably had a frustrating afternoon yesterday. I just ask that maybe a little more patience be used and that fewer threats are bandied about.

OK, but I’m still sticking with the chub theory…

Krispy Original - I survived the SDMB outage

You know, I did something similar in my “homophobic bigots” thread - I posted a couple of times, not trusting the CGI, and realized I was probably double-posting so I decided to be patient. I waited almost 24 hours, went back and it still wasn’t there. I posted it one more time… and like 11 copies showed up all at once. So I learned that we truly have to be very very very patient with the CGI.

Lynn Bodoni was ever so kind to me - all she did was request chocolate. Was she under less stress than David B? I like David, but I think his reaction was a bit extreme. I’ve also noticed he’s been particularly harsh on some of the discussion boards, especially to Pashley (who, admittedly, needs to be thrashed by the ears once or twice).

I’m not pointing fingers or judging anyone, but I have no doubt that David would agree with me that he could use a vacation!

The straw that broke the camel’s back was the “I will not trust the CGI” remark, as Alphagene has noted. We’ve been pleading with people to try to reduce their multiposts, and thoroughly (I hope) explained under what circumstances a multipost generally happens and how to avoid it, because it creates a great deal of additional work for us. David and I had both spent about two hours each that day doing the tedious, irritating task of cleaning up multiposts–and remember we don’t get paid for this job. So “I will not trust the CGI” sounds an awful lot like “I’m going to deliberately make your job more difficult despite your repeated requests to not do so”. The threat of banning goes to anyone who multiposts deliberately; I can’t think of a better description of “jerk” than someone who tries to make our job harder and more time-consuming (or resolutely doesn’t care when s/he does so). Vampire slugs are too good for such people. However, as long as you don’t ignore our request to “trust the CGI” again (and don’t violate the “don’t be a jerk” rule), you don’t have to worry about being banned, C3.

Thanks, Gaudere. I can get that. The comment was really just a joke, because I was getting quite frustrated myself. Like I said, it was timing out on the “Your reply” page where I actually type what my reply is and I only tried to repost once (it timed out the second time, too, but I just logged off and went home). I just think that when there are posting problems going on that you all, the moderators, know about, that when we, the simple people, get frustrated and screw up, there should be some patience on both sides.

And, yeah, Esprix, I think you’re right…I should know better than to have my feelings hurt by David B. He does tend to be a lot harsher than some people, but I guess that’s just his style.

C3, if you think David was harsh, you should compare his remarks to what we considered doing to you when we saw the “I will not trust the CGI” remark stuck in the middle of several hours of potential multipost cleanup work. ::grin::

Yeah, well, I’m sure I’ve had similar thoughts run through my head when the board isn’t working the way it’s supposed to. I’m just not sure who to wish them on. I usually just try to vent my frustrations on my coworkers.

{{Lynn Bodoni was ever so kind to me - all she did was request chocolate. Was she under less stress than David B? }}

David’s forum is a LOT bigger than mine. And that wasn’t a simple request. And you’ll have to do better than Hershey’s, even if it IS fresh.

Lynn

If it’s helpful, I’ll compare everyone to Hitler so we can get this
over with as soon as possible.

Dammit! What, are we talking Godiva here? Oy!
