General Announcement - you will read and obey.

Please people, I’m seeing ** a lot** of double posts lately. You really only need to hit the submit button once. I know that at times the response time on this board is less than optimal, but on nearly every case your post has been received. If you are in doubt and can still see the reply window you may very easliy Copy and Paste your post to a text editor for later submission. As you can see, repeatedly selecting the submit button just causes double posts. This just causes further slowdowns in the server.

Additionally, you do not need to post an apology if you have double submitted. We’re all pretty sure it was an accident; no one is going to hate you for it. This also unncessarily consumes valuable server resources.

Thank you.

I apologize on behalf of all double posts everywhere.

Let me be the first to produce a mea culpa. I double-posted today on Homer’s drunk thread.

…reading lower down UncleBeer’s post…

Oh, no apologies needed. So, everyone who wants to complain about my double-post can sod off.

My work server gave me a “timed out” message after SEVEN minutes of waiting. I never even saw the “Thanks for posting!” screen, so I figured something was wrong, and re-submitted.

When I do see the “Thank you!” screen, I ALWAYS trust the CGI.

The server seems to update threads extremely slowly.

I am guilty of a double post this morning, but it was because I posted, returned about 5 minutes later and didnt see my post. I pasted the text back into a reply window, posted it and bam…there’s both posts…

I think that may be part of the explanation for so many double posts.

-SS

Sorry. I was doing it on purpose just to pad my post count.

I sometimes get a “Proxy Timed Out” page also, or “Could Not be Loaded by Proxy.” This is responsible for the majority of my double posts, which of course I have since learned, even when I get that screen the post obviously went through, or it wouldn’t be a double post.

I’ll just sit back and wait now to see who the first doofus to double post to this thread will be.

What I usually do in such cases is post another remark to the same thread. I find that it normally pushes them both through.

So making this a double post wouldn’t be funny? :stuck_out_tongue:

finger hovers over button…

Each time I hit submit I got the message “This Page Cannot Be Displayed.” When this happens at work it usually means that our network’s down so I hit the back button and hit submit again. I won’t do it anymore… cross my heart. But I am taking back my apology for my multiposts. I’m not sorry at all. So there. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was much better than Cats. I’m going to see it again and again.

LOL
And I’ve just tried to explain to my co-workers why I laughed at this, but they don’t remember that at all.

Viva la referencia obscura!

I just LOVE it when Uncle Beer is firm with us…

I do, too. Does this mean if we double post, we’re up for a right good spanking, too?

Oh God, I sure HOPE so! Should we ask him what we have to do to get him REALLY riled?

I think that Uncle Beer is talking to me!

I made a quadruple post this morning. I tried to post. Got a timed out message. Tried to post again. Got the same message. I then copied my post and went back to the thread and “refreshed” it. I didn’t seem my post so I hit reply, pasted my post and tried to post it again. I got an error message again, tried once more for good measure and then gave up. I went back to the thread and refreshed and there was my post four times.

Finally, to complete my errors I posted an apology. I wouldn’t for a double post, but I do think that a quadruple post warrants it.

I have never had that timed out message before so I didn’t know what to do with it. I will not apologize again though

::Walking Zombielike::
Yeeeessss Maaassster…

Okay.

News from the SD Tech Staff:
Last month we had 1.2 million page views … 900,000 of which were for the message board. The SDMB server is absolutely pushed to its very limit and the techs have advised the Reader that we need a new server. However, a server on the order of what we need is a cool 15K and I dunno if Mike and Jane and them are gonna be willing to pony up that kind of money for us.

This is just a note to tell you what’s going on and to assure you that everybody is trying to keep the board running as smoothly as possible. Thanks for your patience.

And I think most of you already know what it takes to get yer poor old UncleBeer riled.

Okay.
