A tired and uninspired MMP...

More like kindergarten, I think… And I’m not so sure about the “more TMI,” either!

:: Pulls Nava’s ponytail :smiley: ::

smacks Neener with her wooden clipboard Maybe people in my school were just too polite or late bloomers, but neither in kindergarten nor in third grade did we have conversations about our poo, our periods, our sex lives, our favorite positions or our assorted pets’ poos.

I just came from my first class. Newsflash: the professor is an ass, with my apologies to donkey butts.

Today’s class consisted of:

  • passing handouts with the syllabus and so forth, including the list of reading materials
  • going over them
  • the professor making lots of assumptions (“we all say… we all believe… we all complain…” oh sweet Jesus in a manger, it’s one of those guys whose idea of “correct understanding” is “agrees with me”) and discovering that Oh Noes, not everybody had read what may be his favorite book ever (sorry, I’m an engineer, have you read Perkin’s? No? :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: at least 1/4 of the class hadn’t read The Book)
  • making us read two pages of one-lines about today’s lesson
  • and no explanations at all.

Hopefully other lessons will be less… useless… or the TA will be better.

At least the guy is pretty transparent about his ideology, I’m going to hate it but I should be able to prepare an essay that leans his way, even if I don’t agree with a word of my own writings (well, I imagine I’ll agree with the articles, it’s difficult to have a negative opinion about “the”).

FTR - I’m ignoring swampy

What the hell do you mean by “the”? Huh? Socialist.
;)

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Oh wait. Apparently we are all social democrats. Is a social democrat a socialist?

honestly? I don’t know - I just thought it was too mean to call you a Republican

Morning all! Ooh boy, I’m not going to jump on the bandwagon, although it’s mighty tempting. Ima fix me a nice cup of Irish Breakfast tea (stuff is good, I tell ya!) and rummage for something to eat with it. Had coffee and an english muffin w/orange marmelade at home.

Blurf in the mean time, and BooFae take it easy on your last work day before the holiday.

Up and off to work.

Nava, there was a lack of sex talk in my kindergarten, too.

: hands Pie an aspirin :

I had a headache when I woke up, too, but two aspirins cleared it up. As did listening to very loud rock-n-roll on the way in this morning, with the windows down in the car. It’s 72° this morning! Awesome, with low(er) humidity. I can’t wait until 60-something degree mornings.
:: gets busy, humming Burning Down the House by the Talking Heads::

I am very, very blurf this morning. Bad sleep. Long day today with no break. (I do not call a lunch meeting a break…especially when I’m in charge of the actual lunch.)

Add me to the ranks of geezertude. So far, though, I haven’t put either of the dogs in the fridge and put the leftovers out in the backyard.

boofae, you gonna write us whilst you are cruisin’ the big apple?

Anybody seen spaz? Hope all is well.

Oh, and finally, sox.

Tupug

An. Hour. And. F*cking. Half. Late. To. Cubeville. I got caught in the crossfire of someone else’s TVCTP(Them)O, who won the battle for all time. The traffic accident was fatal.

Nava, revel in the obtuseness of that professor. I had a ball going back to school and dealing with those types when I had 20 years of real-life experience, and I could tell them to their face they were full of shit and the world ain’t like their view.

TVCTPMO, northern branch, is working overtime.

On one side of the condo, the workers are ripping off the side of the house. Behind the house, the city is jackhammering the street. So much for beauty sleep.
I’m not sure if it was the Sawsall or the jackhammer that was giving my bed the magic fingers this AM.
off to Blerf.

There’s definitely been a lot of brouhaha about the City To City focus on Tel Aviv this year. The sticking point was that no Palestinian films were included, which made some people stomp their feet and holler about an unfair Zionist agenda.

Aside from the petition that’s been signed by several prominent celebrities decrying the selection of Tel Aviv and a couple of films by Islamic directors/producers being pulled in protest, it’s been something of a tempest in a teapot. No demonstrations at the screenings I’ve been to so far (with the disclaimer that none of my picks this year were from the City To City programme, though some were in the same theatres at the same time)… in fact, most of the frenzy surrounding the film fest this year seems to involve tracking down the current whereabouts of Megan Fox, and not so much on hassling Those Evil Zionists.

(besides, anyone reading the programme would realise that some of the films are just as likely to piss off conservative religious Jews and Palestinians alike)

Speaking of screenings, last night’s movie (Baaria) was quite lovely - a lot of similar themes as Cinema Paradiso, but not as focused in its storytelling. Highly recommended for anyone 50+ who grew up in southern Europe, because it’ll remind them of the good ol’ days, or for anyone who loves coming-of-age movies.

You’re lovely when you’re angry…

No, I don’t think we discussed sex in kindergarten either. That’s what makes the MMP more fun, even if it is more childish

Pretty much as I thought, then. Mush more interesting to us than to the people where it’s all (at least supposedly) happening!
And I’m pretty sure that this Evil Zionist would be more interested in hunting down Megan Fox than in the City to City controversy, too!

A-yup. It always strikes me as funny how the Anti-Israeli crowd is hollering about Israeli films without, apparently, bothering to actually, you know, see them or something… :dubious::smack:

I’m here and skimming. I only get 55 minutes of internet time a day (besides sneaking on at work to check email) so I’ve been wasting it elsewhere for the last few days. I’ve gotten a couple of nibbles on the apartment line–one is in a college apartment complex and the other I just called back today to set up an appointment to go see the place. Both are within my budget if I get my 40 hours a week like I want which should be easier because the morning shift M-F will be wide open in October. (It’s easier to work 8 hours in the morning than the evening because it’s not dependent on how many checkins there are.) Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll have a place to live that’s not a hotel room.

Rosie’s sig to all! And happy 10th anniversary of the landfall of Hurricane Floyd. I have stories about that storm.

I’m T-2 from vacation. (Lucky **BooFae **who’s leaving tomorrow!) But I’ve got so much to do between now and then! I need a day off to get ready for my vacation! Laundry, packing, picking up snacks from the grocery store, picking up a book at the library, testing out the knitting pattern, deciding which needles to use, buying said needles 'cause the ones I’ve tried are too big, talking to neighbor who’s going to take care of the cat and gerbil. Trying to eat everything that’s left in the fridge.

And there’s a lot to do at work, but it’s contingent on getting info from others first, and I’m in waiting mode. Yippee. I really can’t stay late given all the stuff I have to do at home. Ugh.

And I didn’t sleep well last night. Yes, I’m throwing myself a pity party, why do you ask?

Problem being the whole program gets a single grade and half of it comes from his subject. So while I’d love asking him when was the last time he consulted his CRC, whether we’re going to talk about any international organization which isn’t political, or why didn’t he include the corporative nation among the possible replacements of the nation-state (a concept which by the way is doubly funny coming from a Spaniard who lives in the UK, as neither country fits neatly the definition of nation-state)…

I think that for now I’m going to bookmark the webpage of what I’m putting on is his political party of choice and sign up for poker classes.

But yeah, I think the last time I met anybody who was so completely convinced of his worldliness while having such limited worldviews it was my Philosophy teacher in 11th grade.

Oh, c’mon, everybody knows that Almodóvar’s Tie Me Up, Torrente “the stupid arm of the law,” Trueba’s “Belle Epoque” and a “flamenco and blondes in bikinis” movie are exactly the same. I’m sure Israeli cinema is as limited in its purview as the Made in Spain variety. Totally.

Today is **Mr. Taters’ ** 46th birthday. I have to leave in a bit to take my daughter down for an appointment and then I’ll stop and pick up a b-day gift for him. He couldn’t tell me what he wanted because he just ordered what he wanted. Sigh…I’m clueless as to what to get him.

Still no word from the doc. I e-mailed him the other day, but haven’t heard back from him. I guess I’ll try to call him tomorrow.

We’re going out to dinner tonight with Mr. Taters’ mom. We’re going to celebrate this coming Saturday with our friends. He’s asked me to make lasagne. What can I say, he just loves my lasagne.

Work is suckage and will continue to be. I’ll get through it, though I’m heartily sick of it.

Time to leave for daughter’s appointment.

Especially given that Spaniards are known to be in violent agreement on anything else related to Spain… like official language, borders and government policies. Right?

The problem is that it’s almost impossible to pick a city without pissing someone off… maybe next year they’ll find a less controversial choice - perhaps Belfast or Bilbao or Havana or Kabul would do?

Happy birthday to Mr [del]Potatohead[/del] Taters! When in doubt, I’ve yet to meet a man who’s disappointed by an edible gift… though I suppose the lasagna kinda sorta covers that part. Maybe some really interesting beer or wine, if he’s into that sort of thing?

Nooner, remember what your mama said about shiksas? From what I can tell, Megan Fox is the shiksa to end all shiksas.

Happy BDay MrTaters!

Taters buy the bathing suit and tell him seein’ you in it in Hawai’i will be his present.

Howdy Y’all! I felt less like burning down the place at work today, so that’s a good thing. I think. We had a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge lunch. All my peas and butter beans got et up includin’ the hamhocks. YAY! I didn’t want to bring home any leftovers.

I’s still stuffded so I am not considerin’ any kind of dindin.

Instead, I think I’ll go have me a beerverage to celebrate MrTaters big day.

I swear to god, some days it’s only apathy and lack of ammo that keep me from making the 6:00 news in spectacular fashion. On a related note, I bombed a DifEq quiz today because I accidentally switched one term, mu(x), with another RELATED term p(x) in the formula for solving first order linear ODEs. mu(x) is derived using p(x), dammit… facepalm

Long day. Lots of classes. Multiple quizzes. Not enough sleep. Urk.

Swampy, throw me a beer.
