A totally woot-worthy day

For over two years now, the financial situation at the new household has wavered between “well, at least we don’t have any cut off notices right now” to “Oh my God, how are we going to make the mortgage?”. About a year ago, hubby got a line on a Federal job that he was well-qualified for. He applied, was interviewed and it went great! There were three positions open, and he was assured that he was one of the top two candidates! We waited. And waited. So far as we know, no one has been hired for those positions to this day! But a few months ago, another position came up. He applied. He got an interview! It went great! He was assured he was the top candidate for the job. Until he was informed that the list of candidates hadn’t been properly filtered and weighted to give preference to veterans and current Federal employees. If the list was properly filtered, and his name wasn’t on the list any more, back to square one.

Yesterday morning, he called me which in itself is not unusual. When he’s working out of town, we usually talk several times a day. But when I answered the phone, he sounded way too happy. So I asked him what was up and he just started screaming “I got the job! I got the job! They just called! I got the job!” Woot! He starts November 28th, which means he’ll get his first Federal pay check before Christmas! Yay! I woke up my 14-year-old daughter, even though it was at least an hour before her usual getting up time. We yelled and jumped around, and all day yesterday we’d just look at each other and go (and I quote) “Woo!!”

Today is my birthday, and this is the best gift imaginable!

All in all, it was a totally woot-worthy day!

How awesome is that!

I wish him lotsa luck and a huge sense of contentment at his new job!
Thanks for sharing!

Huzzah! Today is a red banner day!

Well, I have to admit, the pay is good. And having medical benefits is great! But the best part is that it’s a job he thinks he’ll really love! It’s been quite a while since he had a job that he loved.

Congrats Norine!

Happy Birthday, Norinew!

Congratulations and happy birthday!

Congratulations and happy birthday, norinew! Being close to the edge sucks, and I’m glad you’re on the way up!

Thanks for all the well-wishes, guys! Mostly, I’m just trying to enjoy the day. Unfortunately, I was too psyched last night to sleep well, so I think I’ll try to catch a little nap this afternoon!

Woot! Woot! Good an you! Congrats!

Congrats and happy birthday, norinew!

What does communism have to do with it?

Woot-doodley-oot!

Well, Hot Damn and Happy Birthday, Norinew - best of luck to your hubby in his new job, too!

Happy B’day norinew. You’ll have to head over to Skip’s place if you want me to sing to ya.

Congrats to the hubby on the new job too. I really hope he does like it. We spend too much time working to not have something we can at least tolerate most of the time.

Congrats and happy birthday!!

Congratulations, I can imagine what a relief this is!

Yeah, we had vegetarian chili Tuesday night, so Wednesday was like that for me.

WOOT!

Yippee! Happy birthday, and congratulations to the new household!

Now that you’ve caught your breath, what are you going to do to celebrate?

Wow. That’s a good question, and hubby and I are going to have to discuss it. We wanted to go out this weekend to celebrate our anniversary (which is tomorrow), but now we’re kind of wanting to do something with the whole family. But it can’t be too expensive because he’s not bringin’ home the Big Gummint Bucks yet. We’re certainly going to do something celebratory this weekend, and then something bigger after he gets his first paycheck. I’ll have to keep you updated on what we decide. At this point, buying name-brand canned vegetables would feel pretty damned extravagant!
