A Touch Of Grey

I’ve been going gray for as long as I can remember. It never bothered me, but recently I’ve been thinking that maybe a little less gray might make me look a little younger. (Yes, I *am *starting to feel my age…)

In this thread I chronicled my experience with Grecian Formula. I used it for 6 weeks with no results.

Some recommended A Touch of Grey. I figured what the heck - I work from home so if it goes awry I won’t be seen too much in public. I went and bought a box - a shade lighter than my hair that isn’t yet grey.

I followed the directions. Put it on and let it sit for 5 minutes. Oh my god your hair is black! It looks horrible. What were you thinking?

5 minutes pass and I shower and rinse, the whole time going :smack::smack::smack:.

Turned out OK. I still have some gray, my hair is a little darker and I will probably try a second application in a few weeks.

Mundane and pointless.

I’ve used it several times. I have a box here that I’m going to use soon. I love it’s applicator and I find it the easiest to use.

but the stuff from the ladies section has a better color selection and it lasts longer.

I’m 41. What’s left of the hair on my head is already turning white/grey.

I just get it buzzed off once a month. I guess I don’t give a crap. :stuck_out_tongue:

In my opinion, color is best left to the experts. I have a friend who was “Barbara Bush” white at a young age. She has hers done, but they leave a little gray for the believability factor. It looks fabulous.

Hey, black shoe polish is cheaper and has an interesting odor.

I never worried about my hair on my head (what little is left is very grey), but I did for awhile stress about my mustache and goatee.

So I used to dye the goatee and mustache about every 3-4 weeks. I liked what I used in that it left some grey in so it looked natural. All black would have looked like a dye job and I wouldn’t have liked that.

But about 6 months ago, I decided to just drop it and not worry about it and I am 100% fine with the gray goatee, mustache is about 1/2 grey. I am happy with it and my wife still loves me so no more dye jobs for this kid…er…old man.

Good luck though–curious as to how long you will do it though. Then what happens when you decide not to do it–do you age 10 years overnight? I have seen women who dye their hair and then finally decide to not do it, they seem to look a little freaky for a bit, but eventually they look normal again.

I’m in my early 50s, and am just starting to get a little gray at the temples (I suspect I’d be pretty grizzled if I let my beard grow out, though). My sister is ten years older, and has very little more gray than I do, so I probably have plenty of dark hair time left.

At least, that’s talking about hair on my head. I have quite a bit of gray elsewhere…

Boyfriend is 26 with short black hair and about 20 white ones mixed in (I count them on occasion). He wants to be gray quite badly, and whenever I find an extra white hair I tell him and he cheers.

I need a product that can dye black hair a nice gray, apparently.

They make that. Look in the ladies section.

I have an oddity that I have a patch of gray hair in my eyebrow. I have one patch on the right and one patch on the left in the same place in the eyebrow.

My husband’s black hair and beard are now a nice salt and pepper (heavy on the salt). We just looked at some pictures of him before we had kids and the difference is striking. I think he looks fantastic with the gray.

I bought a new box and read the directions a little more closely. They warn you that before you rinse it turns a very dark black and that the end result will not look like that… I wish I had read that before I went into panic mode!

My mom starting going gray at 18 and her one brother and she are both quite gray at this point. Their other brother kept deep brown hair until his death in his 50s. The whole family is gray and yet he denied using Grecian formula :smack:

I WISH my hair would all go gray–none of this in-between crap.

 For future reference, most hair dye does that. It looks way, way darker - or in the case of most reds, way brighter, and sometimes purple - than it will when you rinse it out.

Of course, I dye my hair so often I likely won’t know I’m going gray when it doesn happen (assuming it hasn’t started already), so I know about these things.

I do a single white eyelash and one white eyebrow hair, but I’ve had those for as long as I can remember, they’ve just always grown in that color.
