A touching video I wanted to share

A friend just told me about this video by Sarah McLachlan, and I felt like sharing it with the rest of you.
It made me cry.

Mods - It’s about the mesaage, not the music, so I thought MPSIMS would be the place. Hope that’s ok.

Wow. Simply wow.

I’ve always liked Sarah McLachlan, both for music and for her politics. Ages ago, she gave a free impromptu concert for a gay pride day here in Montreal. She’s never been shy about fighting for a good cause.

I’m glad to see she’s keeping up the good work

If she’s going to label the costs of making that video, why the hell is she so concerned with making the point?

According to her own video, which I did watch, that thing costs way the hell over $100k. Why is she advertising it to raise more money, instead of directly contributing the cash herself?

And yes, you’re damn straight I don’t trust them celebrities. This was just a perfect example of how they scam the system to “work for a better cause” yet still make a buck.

Do I have proof? No. But I guarantee she ain’t hurtin’ for cash, and this was just a ploy.

Tripler
Oooh, how my mud is slinging. . .

Uh, you might want to watch it again. She mentions that the video cost $150,000, but the production costs were just $15.

In other words, she did directly contribute the costs, and the costs like “catering” were things she saved on, by filming herself (I’m guessing) with a home digital video recorder in her living room with her acoustic guitar.

Well, I’m not saying she should be canonized or anything. Even if the video did cost her a whole lot, and she didn’t give any of it to charity at all (which I doubt - if you follow links on the video’s page you can get the list of charities that received money), the video is making people think about how lucky they are to have what they have, and how some people have very little.

I know it made me think about that, at least, and I know I’ll be trying harder to count my blessings and give a little more to those who need it. Yes, I’ll still buy $4 lattes sometimes, and maybe that makes me a hypocrite. But I’ll drop a dollar, instead of a quarter, into the donation box next time, and I’ll be trying harder to take my focus off myself.

And by sharing it here, and with my friends, I’m hoping that some of those feelings may rub off on others.

Thanks, Antigen.

Sarah’s one of my favorites (seen her over ten times in concert), and I think she has a really big heart. She genuinely seems to care about helping others.

Ava

Exactly. The idea is that out of a budget of $150,000, she spent $15 and donated the rest.

Pft. She’s totally lip synching in that video.

Seriously, though, that’s pretty cool. Where did the $150,000 come from originally? Donations? Her record company? Out of her own pocket?

I would assume it came from the same place that it would come from for any of her videos - likely the label.
