In one of Baxter Black’s commentaries on NPR (Also in the book “Cactus Tracks(?)”) He relates the story of some cowboys trying to clear up a stuck septic tank in the Wyoming winter.
They try to pry it open and bang on it but nothing seems to work. So they get the bright idea of pouring some gasoline on top and lighting it. This actually does work and they proceed to pull the lid off. At the same time, someone is sitting down in the house to do his business.
As soon as the cover is opened a crack, some of the still burning embers ignite the methane inside and there is a loud FOOM as the explosion blows the cover off and causes a huge jet of waste to come back out the other end.
I thought that was one of the funniest stories in the book. It might have been dangerous to listen and drive at the same time!
KeithB’s story reminds me of something I saw on tv several years ago. It was on “Funniest Home Videos” or something like that.
Anyway, The boss on a jobsite went into a porta potty and closed the door. Sure enough, a forklift, or crane, or some vehicle knocked the porta potty over, door first, with the guy inside. He was obviously kinda unhappy when he finally got out. He didn’t die, but the possibility of drowning was there. I think that embarassment may have taken a few years off of his life.
This probably isn’t what you had in mind, huh blueslady.
BTW; Does anyone else remember this clip, and is it available online anywhere? It was hilarious.
