A Very UHF MMP

Crab legs were yum. Corn muffins were yum. Cake later will be yum.

Yum
Yum
Yum

Growing up in Chicago, we had a handful of UHF stations. IIRC, channel 14 was a Spanish station, 32 was what eventually became Fox, there was a 44, and I think there was something around 60. PBS was mercifully at 11, and the reception of anything but 32 was iffy at best.

Watching any TV at all was like being a safecracker. UHF was a continuum of knob-twirling and rocking it back and forth to get a channel, but the VHF stations needed fairly frequent fine-tuning, probably because the clunk-clunk-clunk tuner was always shaking itself out of whack.

Kids these days have no idea what it means to give the knob a quick twist and to have Mom yell from upstairs “Don’t spin the dial!”

Don’t forget that in those olden days the remote control was whichever kid Dad told to change the channel!

My dad was such a comedian. We’d be sitting around watching TV and he’d look at one of us with concern and say “Stand up a minute.” We’d immediately get up and start checking ourselves for blood or insects, at which point, Dad would say “While you’re up…” So he had remote control beer, too!

I think I shall recline now. MWAH!!

We had 7 channels, NBC, ABC, CBS, & PBS + 3 UHF channels. Got to watch some of the highest scoring games in the history of the NFL because of the ‘ghosts’, we got to see 4 or 5 guys score at a time.

Then we got cable, with the greatest ‘remote’. It was a wired box that had 12 push-in buttons, & a 3 position switch on the left side for 36 available channels. You could always easily find the box to change the channel, even if you were lying down & couldn’t see it; just reach down for the wire & follow it til the end.

I’m getting flytrap & Swampy this pamphlet. (There’s no way there’s enough info for a book.)
Dinner was ‘flaming chicken’ (the topping caught fire under the broiler! :o)
Then I went all rebellious with the side dish; I fluffed the Stove Top (don’t judge) with a butter knife instead of a fork!

They’re poison dart frawgs. Babby ones. So if you like your frawg legs tiny and poisonous, go for it! (Or don’t, they are far too cute to be wasted on poisoning mumpers)

Managed to meet up with the juggly people at the pub again- bought pizza. Prob’ly shouldn’t have, but they make good pizza.

A rift in time and space? Could you doublecheck for socks later?

That’s the who. It all comes back to me now. Lord, it really has been a long time.

My hunting buddy didn’t have a TV the entire time he was at college and for several years after and had no concept of the show Golden Girls. So he had no concept of St Olaf jokes although he went to St Olaf College. Which he claims was much like the jokes.

I probably should ask over Cafe Society but -------- I have vague memories of a show (music) that was on like twice every Saturday; once in the AM and again later in the day. It played all the current hits like Crimson & Clover (this was like mid-late 60s) synced to film; some shot just for the purpose and some lifted from old movies and stuff. What we would call music videos but long before MTV came about. Anyone remember the show or the name of it?

May just head over there and ask.

It does, but I didn’t want to wait and I had a book that ticked me off so badly I needed it out of my house **now **before I was tempted to throw it into the street.

Procrastinating on practicing the clarinet. Well, must get to it, I suppose.

Howdy Y’all! Home from mens’s night over to the church house. ‘Twas great as usual! I didn’t put up enough tables and chairs, which also meant I didn’t put out enough plates, salad bowls, and utensils. This meant <gasp> a couple of the folks who just show up and everything’s there <gasp> had to acutally do sump’n and get the extra needed stuff! What is this world comin’ to! I set up for twenty-four and thirty-two men showed up. A horrid, horrid, first world problem!

I read but retained little cause I’s tahrd!

Thus, yays, boos, hugs, gropes, trouts, chitlins, noogies, how [i[you* doin’s all around as needed.

Da bear is tahrd, so time for beddy bye.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

I just shut the studio down for the evening. The Xmas projects are almost finished. Yay! Soon, I can begin the Valentines and the Imbolc cards to make at least some of my materials money back.

I had to go over the whole accident report from a couple of weeks ago with the claims rep this afternoon. Seems like the other party doesn’t grok the concept that no citations were issued and neither of us were deemed at fault. :smack: When the officer told me that we would be responsible for our own damage, I came to the conclusion that since mine didn’t affect the safety, functionality or value of my truck, there would be no repair, thus no claim. Now, the insurance guys are in on it. :frowning:

Holiday shopping is officially complete! Now it’s time for the [del]w/delrapping; why do so many manufacturers make non-square packaging? :smack:

Sari my daddy’s name was Oscar. Never knew the meaning.

Left home extra early so I could get to Jury Duty. Lucked out on a close parking spot. Met colleague so had a buddy. There were 225 potential jurors and 60 people asked to be excused. Folks, if they excuse you this time they will get you in the next two months. Get it over with now. There was a poor sap who asked to be excused because he was also supposed to be at Federal Jury Duty at the same time as the state.

And no, I did not wear black jeans. I put on a proper business pant suit.

Off to catch up. I will be back.

My doctor signed me out of jury duty permanently. I will never be called. I did serve once, back when I was healthy. Got all the way to the voir/dire, and was declined.

I adore whoever popularized gift bags.

This was me last July when instead of 4 hours it took 8 to be excused. Get chosen but due to my placement in the seating i was not needed:confused: there must be a better way.

Rosie. Did you ever find your keys?

American Bandstand?

Up, caffeinated, off to work. it’s a glorious morning. The sun isn’t shining ,the birds are singing…

Tom Hatten, probably, on the Popeye show on KTLA.

Triangulating from your description, am I correct in placing you in the South Bay, possibly on the Palos Verdes Peninsula?

Blurf.

All my hexmas wrapping is done, first lot of presents get delivered tonight so I had to get all the work done over the weekend. Last night I made two trays of rocky road which will get cut up and packaged tonight as part of the edible hexmas present list.

I still have a batch of mince pies to bake for my mum but I don’t need to do those until Saturday because I’m not seeing her until Sunday. After that, all I need to think about is cooking the hexmas day bird.

A list. I need a list!
