If this is “Ed Zotti’s forum” and/or he has permission from the Chicago Reader/Creative Loafing, then the addition of a new forum is fine by me. It’s not as if I have to vist it, and it might draw some good posters.
However, if it hasn’t been proposed already, I suggest making it a sub-forum to Cafe Society.
If it wasn’t for all the members that accepted to pay in order to post here this site would have sunk long ago.
Thus show us a “little respect” and go peddle your merchandise in classier fashion. If you’re capable that is.
Because a new forum to discuss this guy’s self-indulgent book gives me douche chills. How is that related to why he created the forum? The smart thing to do would have been to make a “Workbench” forum like Weirddave suggested and sticky a thread about the book at the top. Same result, nobody rolls their eyes.

The fact that nobody raised an eyebrow about a forum devoted solely to the whole wide world of games and sports should tell you just why people are taking umbrage over this excresence of dogs balls proportions: because one person has not only the hubris and ill-judgement but also the power to pull himself a whole forum devoted to pimping a single book, instead of just starting a thread in Cafe Society where it belonged - or stickying it if he didn’t want it to sink like a stone. Christ, the Bible doesn’t get its own forum. The Origin Of Species doesn’t get its own forum. The complete works of Shakespeare don’t get their own forum. The Adventures Of Milly Molly Mandy and The Protocols Of The Elders Of Ziondoesn’t get ther own forums: what’s suddenly so special about this magnum opus that it suddenly merits its own forum? Well, we know what’s special about it: Ed wants to keep it off the remainder tables of the nation and he has the pull to pimp it here, and any pretence that it’s a genuine forum for the discussion of home renovations is so transparent to be laughable.
I wonder if the Barnyard forum doesn’t pan out, SDMB will suddenly go back to a paid membership model?

Except I was specifically questioning your claim of there being similarly shut-down threads shitting all over the new Game Room forum, since I can’t find these threads of which you speak. Your refusal to respond to this (say, by linking to these mysterious threads), coupled with your misleading quoting of me (a cheap shot, as seen above) fails to address this.
Nor is the contested existence of these threadshitting threads in the Game Room forum an entirely trivial point, as it relates to my (and others’) objection to the hair-trigger shutting down of almost all threads critical of the new (yet strongly controversial) Barn House forum – an activist mod policy indicative of, at the very least, insensitivity and arrogance on their part, and at worst, de facto censorship via selective enforcement of the rules.

Nah. I’f you’ve been watching the boards lately, you’ll note that Marley has been like Chickenman-fucking everywhere-a one person Mod Squad, (no offense to the 1968 TV show). Marley has attempted to raise sycophantic moderating to art form and was first in line at the signing of Ed’s previous, but little known book: Improve Your Message Board Moderator Status Via Fellatio.
To all of the apologists who claim that Ed built this board, get fucked. Ed provided a venue. Without the content provided by all of us, it wouldn’t amount to a pinch of owl shit. All I’ve asked for, as a member, was to be given the truth and responses to queries in a timely manner, and that hasn’t happened.
The Barn House? I suggest they rename it The Potemkin Village, where Ed can come to view an elaborate facade specifically erected to gratify his ego, and gaze at the magnificent fruits of his reign while being greeted by cheering throngs, and where all grumbling and dissent is assiduously swept away by his his toadying ministers. Jesus, we spend four years begging for barely adequate service, and the moment it arrives he uses it to erect monument to himself.

Jesus, this is hopeless. I made no claim, I used a rhetorical device called a hypothetical, expressed by starting the sentence with the word “if.” I said IF there had been similar threads in the Game Room, they WOULD have been shut down, as some of the threads in the Barn House have been.
If there was any activist mod policy, this thread would have been shut down, too. And we’d probably have locked the two threads in ATMB and then rolled our panzers into the Sudetenland. That hasn’t happened, and I leave it to you to figure out why. Duplicate threads get locked. I don’t know why you’re expressing some level of shock about that, as it’s neither “activist” nor unusual.
