Good grief. Both of you are looking idiotic at this point. let it go
It’s his message board. Let him do whatever he wants with it.
I presume the Forum will be gone come October?
Hmm. Experiment:
You think Jerry only worked on the upgrade this weekend?

[Twisted-semi-insomniac-thoughts]Now how might Cantor adapt this post towards a proof of the infinitude of the set of sentences?[/TSIT] :o <—Yawny smiley
I don’t get that impression, no. Else why create an entire new forum? If it was just for a month, an announcement or a sticky would have sufficed.
Case in point.
Likewise.
Oh, SNAP!
And from the tone and warrantedness of your reply to wring, I’d have to agree with you, in a way that, as you can probably work out, is not a good way. :dubious:
ETA: “Likewise”? I know you are, but what am I? Tsk.
Of all the books to pimp on this board, did it have to be a my-eyes-glaze-over “adventures in home renovation” tome? Couldn’t he have written about zombies, or ninjas, or pirates, or zombie ninja pirates, who if they did tart up their living quarters occasionally, at least refrained from telling their captives about it? Jesus, nobody cares about how hard it was to source those vintage light switches from a demolition site in Dead Rat, Idaho thirty minutes before the bulldozers moved in and just look at the detail that went into the moulding of those cornices, you can’t get quality like that anymore, but we found this fantastic little craftsman in Bumfuck, Nebraska who hand lathes them on his teeth. It’s boring. Gnaw-my-thumbs-off *boring[/I. ]Renovation bores are Tedious Wankers TM of the worst order, and people feign seizures or leprosy to avoid being cornered at parties to hear them wank on about their bloody architraves. And hijacking a message board to broadcast your tediousness to a captive audience without even the courtesy of supplying free booze so that they can drink away the enniu is worse than boring, it’s an incitement to walk-the-spaces-between-the-moments catatonia. Since when did the motto of this board become “Boring People Senseless With My Really Dull Hobby {It’s happening quicker than I thought}”?
If you consider this a fucking nightmare you have lead a very sheltered life.
So take your over-reacting hyperbole and shove it up your drama filled ass.
Idiot.
Now, I did NOT look up “Bumfuck, Nebraska”, but I must admit to having looked up “Dead Rat, Idaho”, because, well hey, it could happen, right?
Wow, for a subsociety supposidly dedicated to the purpose of fighting ignorance I gotta tell ya, there’s some pompous “Fred Phelps” style ignorance spreading like brown acid at Woodstock around here. I mean, holy crap, are there really that many people that blind on this board? Are we really the poster children for fighting ignorance begins at home? I don’t think so. Let me break this down for you:
[ul]
[li]The Straight Dope column is Ed Zotti’s bread and butter, has been for 30 - 35 years (depending on who you ask apairently)[/li][li]Who would you rather buy a home improvement book from, some Zotti guy in Chicago who referbished a farm house in an urban neighborhood or a coffee table book by Bob Villa with full color photos of him taking a shit in different bathrooms he refurbished? Uh-huh, the scat book, thought so. So in the Home Improvement aisle Ed is a total new comer.[/li][li]Have you watched TLC and most of the other cable channels lately? It’s all about “Flip This House” “Design On A Dime” and whatever home improvement shows they can squeeze in there. In 2 hours of cable watching I can see more rooms remodeled than in the last three houses I’ve lived in. This Home Improvement trend is pretty hot right now, my guess is that until the housing market stabilizes it will only get hotter. Do you want to sell your house below market value just because you don’t know how to drywall?[/li][li]The Straight Dope didn’t quite work out as planned when we went to Pay To Post so a new business model was needed to keep this site, this board and by extention Cecil Adam’s brand name and column alive. This is a good thing for Ed as it feeds the Little Ed’s. A great thing for us as we get a nice sandbox to play in.[/li][li]This new business model has been discussed for quite some time now. Did you somehow miss the discussion? Are you new around here? Have you actually read anything on this board?[/li][/ul]
So wake up dopers, smell the Free Trade coffee brewing, read the struggle in MPSIMS to translate the latin phrase for “Ignorance is the light of the faithfull”, shed the oppressive shackles of the unenlightened and prepair once more to be one of the Teeming Millions once respected and feared.
In a nutshell, the Zotti forum and new website is not a place to shill a book that will make it’s author barely enough for a Triple Dipper platter at Chili’s, it’s the other way around. The book and the site and everything that is new is part of the new business model to promote The Straight Dope and bless it’s author/editor with the bling power to which he is accustomed. If Ed breaks even on this book it will be more than he did on the house (I’ve made enough trips to Menards for my house to understand this), but if it spreads the SD brand and increases circulation and syndication then it’s a cash cow for TPTB and a boon for all of us who enjoy the board and all other things Cecil.
So get over it or blog about it on your Twitter page for no one but your spouse to read and only when you make them. I for one see what’s going on here (and if it’s obvious enough for me to see it then… damn) and will do what I feel the need to do in order to continue to support The Dope.
Ok, cash cow may have been a little of an overstatement, but continued existance is not such a bad thing.
Regards,

er, I mean Nate
Um, nd_n8, houses can’t think.
But, see, the thing is, it isn’t. His message board, I mean. If it “belongs” to anyone, it belongs to Creative Loafing.
But, past that point, it belongs to us. We’re the community that, for better or worse, has formed around this particular Internet message board. So, in that sense, no, the message board–meaning the community of people who post here regularly–does not belong to him.
But I suppose that the administration, if it wants to, can climb out the third-floor windows and hang out the big banner that reads, “IT’S OUR BOARD AND WE CAN DO WHAT WE LIKE WITH IT AND IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, YOU CAN JUST PISS OFF”, but I think that would suck. Big time.
With all due respect I have to disagree. Nothing could ever be this evil, this contentious, this mind numbingly soul sucking as this house without some sort of sentience involved.
That would be like saying teenage children can’t think.
Oh… wait…
I think I see your point now.
(serious point noted - please mentally disregard the “for this house” phrase in the sentence, it was indeed redundant)
/thread derailed
You! Hey, you!
/thread back on track
Being a part of a thread containing such childish bullshit would have been highly entertaining at $15 a year. Waiting until two days ago and being ia part of it for free makes it THAT much more entertaining.
I certainly hope my emphasis left the sarcasm sufficiently clear…
snigger…Tamerlane nearly said erections…
Oh, thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I bet that’s what the author intended to say.
Of course, if that’s what he meant, he picked a piss-poor way of doing it. “Ignorance is the light of the faithful” would actually be more like nesciendum lumen fidelum.
Bad Latin misused for meter and rhyme? Your conjugation makes more sense but the Vulger just sounds better.
Either way I still think the message is the same, and oddly enough quite ironic.
