Sat and Sun I DVRed the Masters golf tournament. Every once in a while when I DVR and FF/Rew - espcially at >> or >>>, it will jump further than I want/expect, and I’ll have to go back and mess around to get to the right place.
On Saturday, it jumped to the beginning of a particular Mastercard commercial (if anyone else watched, where they say “sometimes it is OK to break the rules.”) It did it a couple of times - always going to the exact same spot in the same commercial. I thought it odd, but didn’t think too much about it.
Until it happened again yesterday. Several times my recording “skipped”, always going back to the exact same spot in the exact same commercial.
Any thoughts as to what was happening? Does MC REALLY think I need to watch that commercial?
Generally it would happen during a commercial. Whether I was watching the show on play or 1FF, I would FF to 2 or 3xFF, and instead of speeding up, it would go to the same spot in the same MC ad. As I got used to it, I realized if I hit play right away, it would go back to where I had been. I also (halfheartedly) paid attention to the timeline, and it did not appear as though it was returning to the same spot on the timeline.
Final bit of info - the Masters strictly limits advertising, both in number/length of breaks, but even in number/type of advertisers. So there were fewer than 10 total ads played over and over throughout the entire broadcast.
Sometimes I find the 15sec back button doesn’t work right on my comcast DVR, just going to the same spot over and over instead of jumping back in 15sec increments. I just shrug and hit the normal rewind button to get it “over the hump”. The 30sec forward skip button (that you have to program into the remote yourself) never seems to have such an issue. I figure there’s just an issue with that particular recording, as it’s not all the time, just sometimes)
