Nothing earth-shattering here, just a bit of feel-good news that I thought some people might be interested in. A friend of mine took her son Argyle to see Green Day at Riot Fest in Chicago a couple of days ago. Argyle was close to the stage, holding a sign that said “It’s my sixteenth birthday and I’m autistic. May I please come onstage and sing ‘Know Your Enemy’?”
And damned if Billie Joe Armstrong didn’t pull Argyle up onto the stage and let him sing a verse! It’s been getting a huge amount of attention online, especially on Billie Joe’s Instagram. Even John Stamos commented to say it was a great moment. It was just a wonderful experience for Argyle, and I thought it would be nice to share some positive news right now.
That’s adorable! Especially how the kid takes the jump in the end at the exact moment the final chord is played. He must’ve been raised on rock’n’roll.
Yeah, he’s a great kid. This sort of thing happens occasionally at rock shows, but this is the first time I’ve been acquainted with the person it happened to. I’m glad that the attention he’s gotten has all been positive. Sometimes people are actually nice.
I’ve seen Green Day twice with my kid now and Billy Joe likes to bring someone up for these kind of things. He even gave a kid a guitar a few years ago at Wrigley Field. I think it’s a great way to really get the crowd pumped up and to give a kid a memory that will last forever.
Bobbi (Argyle’s mother) posted on Facebook today that she’s going to have to ask Billie Joe Armstrong to tell Argyle to finish his homework. Alas, mundane reality intrudes on internet fame.
