It’s what I’ve and others have been screaming for since the obvious similarities in character and personality, between the two stories after Breaking Bad debuted.
Now, if only the adaptation would get out of development hell.
Fantastic news! I thought I saw an interview with him where he said he wanted to get away from roles where he’s playing a junkie. I guess he just can’t quit it.
We’ve had this discussion before - I’m not crazy about Paul for the role. Eddie Dean has to be two things: a junkie (in Book 2) and a wisecracking badass gunslinger (in Books 3-7). Paul can play the junkie all right, I guess, although playing a junkie is about the easiest thing for an actor to do (seriously - I think it’s like the first thing they learn). Actors capable of playing wisecracking badasses, though, are rarer, and I don’t think Paul is one of them.
That’s the thing though, is Jessie is a junkie gone unlikely bad ass—with a heart. He’s really got range that shines through like crazy in seasons 3 and 4. I don’t think cracking wise will be too difficult for him, especially after hanging around Bryan Cranston all these years.
He epitomizes Eddie, IMHO.
Who to cast as Odetta/Susannah so they both have on-screen chemistry might be tough. Wonder if Jennifer Hudson or even Jasika Nicole from Fringe might be a match.
“Welcome, Freshmen, to the NY School for the Performing Arts. Today, in your first acting classes, we’re going to work on your portrayal of an addict. We’ll start from recreational use, go through how to inject yourself with heroin, and end with how to convincingly die from an overdose.”
