I would really doubt it. Serenity did not make money on the theatrical release and only recovered the cost of making and promoting on DVD sales.

There are of course rumors of a budget minded sequel made for TV and hoping to cash in on DVD sales

I strongly believe another Firefly movie will appear eventually. Whether it’s theatrical (doubtful) or direct-to-DVD (more likely), it’ll happen.

If DVD sales can push for sequels to Hollow Man and Starship Troopers, something new will come out of the Fireflyverse. And the cast wants to be involved in another one. Mark my words, it’ll happen.
