About users who sign their posts "peace."

At another forum, I frequently signed my posts with three words and one of them was “peace.”

It was Aldebaran who inspired me to use it again occasionally – at times when it seemed particularly important that the other person know that peacefulness is a priority to me. That is especially true if there have ever been cross words between us.

I use Salaam to Aldebaran as a way of acknowledging to him not only a wish for peace in his life and peace between us, but also as a sign of my respect for his culture. I also use it as a parting word to some of the people who live in my neighborhood.

I also use Shalom and Namaste. Here, from time to time I use Pax which is Latin for “Peace” or “at peace.”

Sometimes I use it when I am troubled and long for peace.

The answers for each person will probably be different and even with the same person, the reasons will be different at different times.

Thirty-five years ago, saying “Peace” was a common greeting among people who were opposed to violence.

SamClem, thanks for the memory of Dave Garroway’s sign-off. I saw it from the beginning.

I don’t believe you will get a good answer. Different people use it for different reasons. I suppose some have given it enough thought to have decided that it is a non-hebrew signature meant to convey the same message as “shalom”. But I suspect that most people use it simply to mean “peace.” I don’t think it is more complex than that.

peace - not again. I thought he was banned.

I thought for sure we’d see him in this thread by now

All Hitler wanted was peace.

A little piece of Poland, a little piece of France…

Works better spoken as opposed to written.

No Moriah either. We’ll have to ask 'em personally.
