Absolute, you really should apologize...

for this post you made here

Not only have you disregarded the single guiding principle of this board, (i.e. Don’t be a jerk.), you have also come very close to breaking The Rules of The Matriarchy®, which I will explain shortly.

(Spelling corrected/quote snipped)

This is the unfortunate phrase for which you owe an apology to the entire message board. In case you’ve missed it, the purpose of these forums is to fight ignorance, not perpetuate it. Using this phrase and not apologizing for it after being given links to educate yourself about the affliction you snorked at shows you to be a feckless ignoramus.

Your singling out of Ankylosing Spondilitis is what has caused me to put my momma bear suit on. As indicated in my reply to you, this hits home to me, in ways your unenlightened brain cannot imagine. Any one who causes pain or suffering to me or my loved ones has broken The Rules of The Matriarchy® (usually shorted to just The Rules), and will be dealt with accordingly. The Rules are very simple and easy to remember, as there are only two of them (sorry, Opal):

Rule #1: Do not fuck with me or mine; I am the bigger bitch and you will lose.
Rule #2: There are no exceptions to Rule #1.

For additional information on The Rules and their applicability, go Here, and scroll down to the post for Feb. 1. Blog linked to by permission of owner.

In short, be an asshat and we will act accordingly.

Absolute didn’t say he didn’t understand it, he was simply saying that it must be hard to convey the term to your average person. Not the kindest thing to say, but I bet a dollar to a doughnut that most people would be like, “Ackle what?” No doubt.

First time I’ve ever heard of it and I had to read it three times just to be able to pronounce it.

And just who in the fuck is “we”? What are you trying to spam us with?

Not spamming. It has been apparent on this board that if someone makes what is perceived to be an outrageous remark, they will be called on it. Like you just did with what you thought was not an appropriate pitting from me. What he said made me and also some other people angry, especially when it was pointed out to him and he made no explanation or apology for that statement.

There are nicer ways to point out the difficulties that must be associated with such a bizarrely-named disorder, and they don’t involve snorting.

I agree that’s it wasn’t the best thing to say, but I’d hardly classify it as outrageous. And sorry for the accusation.

This is the lamest pitting ever.

How is pointing out that a disease has an unusual or humorous name “fucking with you and yours”?

Apology accepted. Thank you.

My husband has this painful and disfiguring disease. He will eventually be totally disabled and in a wheelchair from it. Absolute mocked it as being one of those “invisible” disabilities. It isn’t in it’s end stages. He would have known that if he had read the posts linked to in the original thread. As I pointed out, he only came close; but did not specifically break The Rules, because he didn’t direct his comment to a specific person.

I honestly can’t see where you are reading that into what Absolute posted.

Are you still whining about this? Man, I feel a whole lot of sympathy for people suffering with chronic health problems but you must be the most self-pitying, humorless idiot in the world to still be throwing this tantrum.

It’s a funny name. You might not like that, but it’s a funny name. That’s why he made the joke.

And no one gives a rats ass about your “rules” anyway. The poster wasn’t being a jerk by any definition I can think of, and while you may rule over your little patch of the physical world with an iron fist, your silly little rules don’t apply here. Go away and stop complaining.

It probably would have all been good without the snort at the top of the message.

Can someone explain to me what is so funny about that name? Start with telling me how to correctly pronounce it.

I think that’s the point. It’s a hard name to pronounce, therefore some might see the contortions your mouth has to go through as being humourous.

I don’t see any place where Absolute mocked the disease itself, or those suffering from it. He said it had a funny name. Period. Why is that objectionable?

Check brush width. That goes for all of us. As has been said in here already, I don’t think offense was intended.

See post #3. Also, his whole post came across to me as sarcastic. He made no additional comments on whether or not that was the case. If he had, I would not have been so offended.

Laughter is the best medicine I hear.

Not for broken ribs!

Strangely, I’m on the side of Cheez_whia on this (and comedically, I almost typed Cheea_whia :smack: ).

What separates this one from the other “didn’t get the joke thread” is that this one hit her close to home. Her husband has the disease. She actually has a reason to take a bit of offense to this, whether it was meant to be offensive or not.

The classy thing for Absolute to do would be to clarify his post and apologize.
