Absolute, you really should apologize...

Yep, read everything. I still maintain that Absolute has nothing for which to apologize. For the love of Pete, it’s about the sound of a name. A grouping of phonetics that for some reason ring funny to some people. He made an offhand remark about the name of a condition, and not about the condition itself or anyone suffering from it (Oh, wait, he did. He said he felt sorry for anyone suffering from it. My bad.).

I just think Cheez_Whia went over the top with a heavy handed pitting, and I said so.

FTR, yes I feel badly for anyone with any type of degenerative disease, especially one that causes them a great deal of discomfort and/or pain. If you find some karmic justice that I’ve recently been diagnosed with arthritis in my hips (at 36), so be it. I just wish they gave arthritis a funnier sounding name…

I find it hard to understand why someone would take offense to being told a disease they have has a funny name? How is that insensitive at all?

Dante, for myself, it wasn’t the fact that Absolute posted a quick riposte that made my hackles rise, it was the opening snort. I took it as derisive, I was not amused, and I got snarky. Absolute came back after what had seemed a hit and run post, explained himself, and, as for me, we are good.

I am sorry that you are developing arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis is a form of arthritic disease. Do you know what type you have, and do you have a rheumatologist yet?

BTW, I love your signature! So wrong, but so funny!!!

No rheumatologist yet. That’s the next step. My GP thinks it straight rheumatalogimacal arthritis. It’s very mild, and hardly ever bothers me. Only if I walk a long distance, or a shorter distance if it’s cold and damp. But I have to go at least a mile, either way. Day to day, it doesn’t affect me at all, so I’m not complaining. As has been shown, it could obviously be much worse.

Gangster Octopus - I think it’s not the “Heh, that’s a funny name for an illness” that got our goat. I think it was the “Heh, that’s a funny name, no matter what the symptoms are… because of the funny name, how can people take you seriously?”

Living with this thing ain’t a bowl of petunias, to say the least. I was taken aback by Absolute’s comment myself, but am satisfied to hear he didn’t mean any harm by it.

No harm, no foul. Just keep in mind that these things can be touchy, especially for the people who live with it on a day to day basis. I mean, I have AS, and lno and I were joking together that Ankylosing Spondylitis does sound like the scientific name for a dinosaur. The way in which Absolute’s message came across was more of a Nelson Muntz “Ha-haaaa your disease has a funny name, no one could take that seriously” kind of statement.

Anyway - it’s done, it’s resolved, now let’s everyone go home.
