Satan, do you now believe you have the authority to tell the Moderators what they may say, and who they may say it to? Maybe in your day-to-day business dealings an overblown ego and a “larger than life” presense is a tremendous asset, but here at the SDMB it is not.
Picture the scene, an army batallion manning sand bag barricades, the wind picks up and a light rain begins to fall…
As the sirens go started to go off, the Army privates were starting to get worried. Cigarette ends were nonchantly stubbed out, ammo checked for a final time.
In the distance, Civillian screams could be heard, and a jeep screamed down towards the blocades.
“Run for your lives!!!” the driver screamed “the Ego is about to attack!”

Oh JESUS CHRIST, people. Satan started a thread. Diance took exception to it. As is NATURAL IN THE FUCKING PIT, Satan responded in a less than polite manner. Why Coldfire felt it necessary to jump on Satan’s back I have no idea. No one ELSE in the damn thread had problems with the idea. Coldfire apparently agreed to let the fucking matter DROP, then came back and posted this. Of COURSE Satan’s pissed off! I would be too! How the FUCKING HELL is this an ego issue???
Either let it drop, or not. But don’t go both ways.
And Czar? It’s clear from the post that Satan was talking to Coldy-as-poster, not Coldy-as-mod.
I thnk this whole thing this is blown out of proportion too, but for different reasons. It was out of proportion right from the start, IMO.
If you want to designate an arbitrary group of people with a title then knock your bad self out. But when you start a thread requesting ideas for this new term and asking people to decide who belongs in it, it seems like too formal a process for something that really doesn’t deserve a great deal of attention.
I think that’s what chafes me about this thread. There’s no need for a committee meeting deciding on a name for a group and its membership. Just use whatever little moniker you personally come up with, whether its Pod People or CLoDs or Grand Funk Railroad. Just use it when it’s a propo… er… appropriate. If it’s clever it will catch on.
There’s no need to hold a quorum on it. Technically, we don’t need a new pigeonhole title at all. And when you start calculating percentages, it’s time to ask yourself if this whole process is worth spending your time on.
Sheesh. This should not be two pages long. Can’t you people do anything without turning it into a Greek tragedy?
But really, do we need to call certain posters “trolls” or “sock puppets”? Of course not. We could just ignore them, or not call them anything at all. We do it because it’s descriptive of a group of people that act a certain way or do a certain thing. It allows us to readily identify them in a way that not having the name would not. Plus, it can be kinda funny. But I wouldn’t call it necessary to the overall workings of this board.
That’s what the thread was. It was descriptive. Might I suggest that people were even having fun there for a while? And then a few people came along who couldn’t leave well enough alone. They felt the need, for some reason beyond my capacity of thought at the moment, to come into a thread where people were having fun and talk about how crappy and stupid it was. Essentially ruining it for everyone.
Tell me, which action here was less necessary to the overall function and atmosphere of this message board?
To extend your argument, Alphagene, are we to say that everything unnecessary on these boards is automatically bad? Whoops! There goes 98% of MPSIMS and IMHO! Oh, no! At least half the Pit just disappeared too! Looks like you’re out of a moderator job!
Seriously, I wish EVERYONE would just lighten up. But I’d rather the Fun Police did it first, then there would be much less of a reason for everyone else to have to.
Yep, everyone who doesn’t agree with Brian’s definition of fun are given the title of “Fun Police”. Different strokes for different folks. It just tends to support those who suggest he may have an ego problem, doncha think?
We gave our reasons why we didn’t like his OP. If differences of opinions upset him so much and the fact that he interprets them to be personal attacks, then maybe he should grow a thicker skin before he posts.
Funny that the two of you keep suggesting that others lighten up. By the looks of his posts both here and the other thread, it is obvious that it is he who really needs to lighten up before he gives himself an aneurysm. I mean I am really starting to worry about his complexion that has taken on a blue tint. It can’t be good.
Let me understand you. Are you suggesting that we all sit back and agree with everything Brian says so we don’t give him a reason to stomp his feet, therefore, allowing him to lighten up?
Hm. Seing as how this topic really has more to do with Satan’s thread, we should probably move the discussion over there. joro’s OP topic seems to be dead, AFAIK, so I’m closing this thread.
I’ll just say here that it seems to me people don’t have a problem with the idea of a new name. And no one is trying to be Fun Police (wait till the PC Police find out they have to share jurisdiction :D). I think people are upset at some of the posters Satan has dubbed by this new title, and the criteria by which he judges who is eligible.
That’s why I think it would be better if he just created a name and used it, rather than ask for a public resolution on the matter. Because when you announce something like this, people will tell you what they think.
Anyway, anyone is free to respond, I just ask that you do so in the thread that this is all about to lessen the confusion and linking back and forth. Thanks.
