accessing Google on a Mac

I have an unusual computer problem that I can’t seem to fix.
I have a Mac running 10.4 (one rev back from the current OS release).
My browser(s) will not connect to Google.com. I can ping 208.69.36.230.
I thought it was DNS, but I tried http://208.69.36.230 and it times out.
I can connect to any other website using either Firefox or Safari with this machine.
Any other computer on my home network (Macs, XP, or Linux) connects to Google without any hesitation.

I recently started using OpenDNS. All my computers and my router uses OpenDNS. And as I mentioned, I can’t connect using the IP address.

Any ideas why? Has anyone seen this problem before?

does anyone know where the hosts table is on a Mac?

It is a most puzzling problem. I have never run into this one before.

thanks

(apologies if I had posted this before. I thought I had, but can’t find the post).

Hosts is in /etc
You might try using Network utility and see what traceroute and lookup have to say…
Also, try switching back to your normal DNS and see if that makes a difference.

Browser Question-Google is gone

the dope is just being mean to me lately. I can’t stay logged in, can’t find my own threads-must be a short between the chair and the keyboard…
