ACLU defends Rush Limbaugh?

I heard earlier this week that the ACLU stepped in on behalf of Rush to protest the release of his medical records.
Are there any Rush listeners here. What does he say about it?
Is he hypocritical (oh, I loves me that ACLU) or chapped (I certainly don’t need THEIR help)?
Also has he said anything at all about his blackmarket drug buying? Well, I guess if he’s in litigation he can’t comment on that at all. How about putting down drug addicts and pushing for more war on drugs? Does he still hold that position?

I would love to hear what O’Reilly would say if the ACLU helped him out someday. Ha!
(I love hearing talkshow denizens talk sarcastically about Rush and how they are so very proud that he will be turning himself in to the authorities soon for his ill-gotten drug offense.)

(Not fair to make fun about someone’s drug addiction problems? Sure, but only if that someone didn’t act the same way about others’ woes.)

No doubt about it, this qualifies as one of the grandest ironies of recent ages. I’m sure that the folks at the ACLU were just wetting their pants with glee while they formulated their offer of assistance to the Chief Dittohead himself.

You are perfectly justified in laughing yourself silly at the whole situation. Drug habits may not be a laughing matter, but seeing an arrogant blowhard getting his just deserts is.

I’m interested in the case, not because of Limbaugh, but it seems fairly justified to open the medical records of a person suspected of doctor shopping. What’s the opposing viewpoint?

I haven’t been following the case much beyond the headlines so I may not be right on all the details of the investigation. My opposing viewpoint is that doctor shopping isn’t illegal. If Rush was seeing multiple doctors in an attempt to induce them to write legal prescriptions for a legal product then I don’t see the crime or the justification for opening his medical records. Now, if it were alleged that he was going to multiple doctors to obtain pills in order to re-sell them then the story might be different but my understanding of the case is that he is believed to have obtained the pills strictly for his own use.

Are you sure? I thought it WAS illegal.

Daniel

Yeah, I think it is illegal, at least in Florida.

Knowing Rush, he’d probably portray this as the ACLU trying to “redeem” itself by finally(!) fighting for a just cause(!!!).

Well I said I wasn’t following the case beyond the headlines…

He basically responded in a rather straightforward manner. After initally stating that Snerdly was having a heart attack over the news of the ACLU coming to Rush’s aid, he quoted parts of the ACLU statement regarding the case. He then followed with a short statement expressing indignation at having his medical records (apparently a list of medications perscribed to Rush and obtained at a pharmacy) “leafed through on worldwide television”. In closing he said: “So the ACLU is on the case now.” “We welcome the ACLU.”
