First off, please note that I started this thread 11 months ago, so it runs the risk of being closed as a zombie.
That said, I decided to gamble that it would stay open long enough to get a reasonable answer to this query, so if you know a reasonable guess I would appreciate it.
There’s a current (as of today) thread that asks:
My first try at a definition of N.A.F. was a Yahoo! search which left too many doors open, so I did the next best thing by going to Urban Dictionary and not being convinced.
If it’s not obvious, this is a new acronym to me and I hate not knowing such important things.
Help?
If there’s a better acronym source, and there may be one mentioned upthread but I haven’t gone looking – nor have I gone looking upthread for N.A.F. either 
– that would be good info, too.

On that last point, I have checked this site mentioned just above and I still don’t know how to read N.A.F. in the rat/mouse issue.
My guess it’s a reference to the latest Dope meme, “Need Answer Fast.”
I was gonna lock this, but I realize I’ve got one I want to contribute, and I’m guessing others will as well.
Back when I was teaching religious studies in a state university, I once proctored a midterm for a colleague who had to go out of town. The class was on the Bible, and about two minutes after I passed out the exam, a SYT (sweet young thing) came up and pointed at the first question, which referred to the OT.
“What does OT mean?” asked the SYT.
I did a double take, then said, helpfully, “Well, it might mean overtime, and it might mean occupational therapy, or it might mean Old Testament.”
She looked at me blankly. “But which one is it?”

I was once asked what NWA stood for by a white guy who was just rapping the lyrics to one of their songs. Before I had a chance to formulate an answer, he asked, “Is it Niggas with Attitude?”. I concluded that he just REALLY wanted to use the word nigga in front of a black person. He got the ::rolleyes::.

I twitch every time I see someone talk about playing MW2 when they’re talking about the new Call of Duty game…
Any REAL gamer knows that MW2 is MechWarrior 2, a game about giant robot warfare. 
CFL - Compact Fluorescent Light or the Canadian Football League. Of course, the fact that I went to a school with the same acronym doesn’t help in the least.
These two are not exactly the same acronym, but an acronym homophone that I find very troubling.
DAC: digital-to-analog converter. Pronounced “dack”, rhymes with back.
DAQ: data acquisition (card/hardware/system). Pronounced exactly the same as DAC.
This is problematic, because there’s often a DAC in the DAQ. Conversations about the DAQ become confusing, because you can’t tell whether someone’s talking about the DAQ or the DAC.
As in,
“I think there’s something wrong with the DAQ.”
“Well, maybe the DAC is fried.”
“That’s what I just said!”
Sort of like a lame, nerdy Abbott and Costello routine.
Oddly, nobody else I know is bothered by this.

MSM = MainStream Media, but I first saw it (in AIDS research materials) as Men who have Sex with Men. It’s also in personals columns as Men Seeking Men.
I have no idea whether this is true, but as far as the last one of these, I once heard that the band’s “original” name was No Whites Allowed, but they changed it when they became famous so it would be more “acceptable.” Which one is more acceptable, I guess depends on whom you ask.

Leaving aside computers, MAC can mean Monitored Anesthesia Care, the New and Improved way of saying “conscious sedation”, which was a bit of an oxymoron, or Minimum Alveolar Concentration, which is the average threshold level of inhaled anesthetic (specific to the drug and species) needed to produce surgical-level anesthesia. Both can be present in conversations about anesthesiology, although MAC is not generally done with anesthetics that have a MAC.
Another one for AAA: American Anthropological Association.
To make it even more confusing, it’s just one word off from American Automobile Association.
There’s also AA, or Alcoholics Anonymous. When I was in high school, we had AA: Authors Anonymous. Our yearbook picture showed us all with paper bags over our heads.
