Active Release Technique

I searched this site and found nothing about this. IMHO was unresponsive.

I have an ailing shoulder and finger (tendonitis and motorcycle accident, adhesion from weightlifting plus bad genetics). I have heard nothing but good things about this treatment, and I would like to hear about any experiences with this treatment. This seems to be my only option, considering my current personal situation and I am getting a little bit excited about this idea.

Is this truly as legit as it’s made out to be? Did it work for you or any people you know? What have you heard about it?

It’s just a kind of chiropractic. There’s nothing wrong with chiropractic as long as you’re using it to treat appropriate things like muscular aches and pains, and not cancer or kidney trouble.

And as long as you know what you’re getting into, and don’t expect miracles.

Get references before you pick a therapist.

DDG already gave a good answer, but I thought I’d direct you to an interview with Dr. Leahy that goes into a bit more detail. He certainly doesn’t sound like a quack, and Quackwatch has nothing on him or ART.

I got it done last week. It improved my shoulder and finger dramatically. Indeed, no miracle, but it did exactly what it was supposed to do, according to what the web has said about it.

Thanks ultrafilter, you were the one who mentioned it to me initially… I might not have ever gotten it done if you didn’t take your time to mention it to me. I read that interview 2 weeks ago, and it’s one of the reasons I looked into it further. I owe you one.

Hey, no problem. Glad to hear it worked for you.
