Active Shooter incident in Lewiston, Maine 10/25/2023 (found dead, presumed suicide)

Eric Rudolph, the Olympic Park Bomber, lived off the land and evaded capture for five years. That’s the other extreme.

True, but he had help from sympathizers. I doubt anyone will help Card.

And he was a mad bomber, not an up close and personal killer on the run immediately after the carnage.

If he had spent even just a week planning this, he could have cached supplies up the woods, so his little boat might not need to have any cargo in it.

Meh. Not all that different for the diver at night. It is for the tender but that can be overcome with proper clothing & lighting.
While not knowing the specific body of water & current weather characteristics it’s not the Caribbean with great viz. The deeper you go, the less light. The divers are intentionally on the bottom, working by feel, which means they’re stirring up silt which is reducing the visibility even further. Water temp is basically stable as compared to air temp. You lose body heat 25x faster in water than in air & we wear dry suits w/ hoods & base layers on underneath so be comfortable underwater you’re hot on the surface.

It will be a slow & methodical search since they don’t know where he went under if he’s even in the river. Did he put on cement shoes next to the boat ramp? Did he try to swim across, making it ½ or ¾ of the way & then drown? Did he try to swim across, making it ½ or ¾ of the way, get swept by the current & then drown? Think about how long it would take to search a football field if you had to do it by feel while crawling on your belly & that there might be rocks/boulders, tires, etc. that you have to navigate around.

This was a fun week as I got to do two different nighttime in-water trainings, a dive & swiftwater rescue. I can tell you I had about 6" of visibility the other night where we were, if that was daytime it might have been 1-1½’ so not all that different just 12’ down.

Apparently the search is over.

Yep, he’s dead.

CNN reporting it now.

Has anyone else wondered if he went to the bowling alley because he knew a lot of deaf people would be there that evening? I can’t be the only one.

That was the bar not the bowling alley, but anything’s possible. I’d heard his sister mention that she thought he might be looking for an ex.

One of the thoughts was that he knew the people in the bar from a cornhole tournament and they were targeted. I suppose we’ll get a better picture soon. I wish the voices in his head were a little more pro-active and just skipped to the ending.

Supposed to be a news conference at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, that would be right about now. Just tuned into CNN and waiting for it to start.

So glad the people can relax alittle.

No kidding. I have that thought just about every time I learn of a murder-suicide, no matter how many victims the killer takes with him (and it’s almost always a “him”.)

That too, but also shooting at people who don’t know he’s there or what he’s doing would increase the casualty count.

Also, that 16 of the 18 fatalities were male puts the misogyny rumors to rest, for me at least.

If it IS a “her”, the other victims are often small children or other people who cannot get away from them.

Not me. “Those dudes are competition: the women should belong to me.

I think the suggestion was that those were places she might have been, so that’s where he went to do his deed.

Yeah, with that population I call these “Wal Mart towns.” They have that, maybe a movie theater and a little college even. But no mall to gather at, just a run down old town center.

So it looks like he crawled into one of the trailers at the recycling center, all the way in the back and did himself in. The cops had searched the area twice but never found his body. I’m not sure how that would’ve worked; I’m supposing they were cursory searches of the buildings with no dogs or anything.

Anyway, just looking at the layout of shit - I’ve driven that road from Lewiston to Lisbon a thousand times - that boat launch he stopped at is also a park-n-ride, right before you get to the village that is Lisbon. I’m guessing after driving all that way from Lewiston (maybe ten minute drive) after what he’d just done, he didn’t want to drive through town. Chances are he walked from there to that recycling place (where he used to work) via the train tracks and that was it.

I was just as guilty as everyone else with my, oh no, he’s going to kidnap my sister, but I’m somewhat glad that all this talk of surviving in the woods like Rambo turned into a pathetic cowardly end.
