Actors in two movies with almost the same name? (Sequels don't count.)

Today I saw mention of a movie called The Man Who Loved UFOs. While googling for more info on that movie auto-fill suggestions included The Man Who Loved Women (a Burt Reynolds movie I was familar with) and The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing. I hoped for something like this, but that one turns out to be a different Burt Reynolds movie that I wasn’t familiar with. The similarity of the names interested me, and I’m wondering about other examples.

A John Wayne triple feature, Rio Lobo, Rio Bravo and Rio Grande.

Beat me to it.

In 1952 Kirk Douglas was in the movies The Big Trees and The Big Sky, consecutively.

Harvey Keitel was in Cop Land and Copkiller.

Jean Claude van Damme was in Double Impact and Double Team.

James Stewart in It’s A Wonderful Life and It’s a Wonderful World.

Bernard Lee was in The Spy Who Came In From The Cold and The Spy Who Loved Me

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was in Red Notice and the upcoming Red One.

The British Carry On [Whatever] series had 31 films and relied on a regular stable of actors.

I’ve never sen any of them, and, while I’m sure no actor was in all of them, there must be an awful lot of overlap between actors and multiple entries in the series.

You might say it violates the OP’s criteria, but you can’t really call any of these a sequel. But this definitely was a series.

Humphrey Bogart was in The Big Shot and The Big Sleep.

In 2009, Jesse Eisenberg starred in both Adventureland and Zombieland.

Steven Seagal is perhaps the king of repetitive movie titles (most of them straight to video). He has been in:

  • Hard to Kill
  • Out for a Kill
  • Driven to Kill
  • Contract to Kill

and

  • Out for Justice
  • the aforementioned Out for a Kill
  • Out of Reach

and

  • the aforementioned Out for Justice
  • Mercenary for Justice
  • Urban Justice

I thought Eric Roberts would be an easy target for this thread. He has been in a ton of stuff. IMDb lists 106 projects under “upcoming” alone. (Who knows how many of those will see the light of day?) Scrolling down just thru 2024 and 2023 releases takes a lot of scrolling.

So sorting thru to find similar titles … egad. Who has time for this? Moving on.

Paul Newman was in Hud and The Hudsucker Proxy.
