Actual protest signs from protesters

Nah. I think if it was called, for whatever reason, Covid-84, you’d still get the Covid-84 not Covid-1984 signs.

But, seriously, anyone that talks about the ‘facts’ and also thinks this is the 19th version of Covid is proving they don’t know the facts, as they’ve clearly not done even the smallest amount of research or, at the very least, they’re making things up as they go. You’d think, or I’d wish, someone would correct them. I have to assume even plenty of people that watch those shows understand the reason for the name and lose some trust in those talking heads when they get such basic facts wrong.
Maybe I don’t wish for that. Maybe it’s better if at least some Fox viewers come to the conclusion on their own that these people aren’t spreading the facts, but misinformation. Whether it’s on purpose or due to ignorance on the subject, it’s still incorrect and will only make this last longer.

Sir David Attenborough narrates the documentary: “And here we see natural selection in it’s purist form.”

True, but there’s a coffin for almost every size…! /s

Maybe I’m giving them too much credit, but I read that sign as a deliberate dig at a perceived hypocrisy of saying the government can’t interfere with a woman’s right to choose what she does with her body, but can interfere with your right to, umm…, choose to get sick?

I think I might have seen this one in the background:
“I AM DUM!”

There is a cure, it’s just not legal.

This is a month old, but appropriate:

A hipster is claiming to have contracted the small-batch artisanal coronavirus strain COVID-18

These people are trolling themselves. I was thinking that it might be good fun to make a bunch of insane signs trolling the protest & join a local protest, pretending to be completely clueless. The problem is that I can’t think of anything better than what has already been done. I mean, what’s left? Maybe a sign saying, “I have COVID-19, Lick My Face $1” ? “Vote for me. I Don’t Care About You.” “I’m stupid!”

I’m honestly surprised they haven’t started singing We Shall Overcome. Their awareness is on holiday, evidently.

I think it’s in Larry Nevin’s Belter books: “Stupidity is a death sentence” (or words to that effect).

You don’t seem to understand. They’re pro-their choice, not pro-your choice.

Here is one example. Personally, I like this one much better.

What’s scary is this image from the World Economic Forum. It shows that at the end of February 2020, only two thirds of adults in the United States say they would get a vaccine that protects from COVID-19.

You might be on to something.

Nah, the one I saw that said “Jail Carole Baskin” was 100% serious.

It seems pretty obvious to me that they are intentionally referring to the abortion slogan. You don’t get to say that bodily autonomy is sacrosanct when it gives you justification for killing a fetus, but suddenly throw that all aside when telling people they MUST wear a mask or get a vaccine they don’t want.*

*Before someone jumps to the wrong conclusion : I am extremely pro-vaccine and make sure that I and my family get the flu shot every winter, but I absolutely do not support forcing others to get vaccinated. People always have a right to refuse unwanted medical procedures, even if I don’t agree with their reasons for refusing and even if it would make things easier for everyone else if we could just force it on them. People’s rights don’t just stop existing because it would make things easier for the rest of society.

Don’t forget the “my body, my coice” one.

Boy, you sure figured it out. The only possible explanation for why people would be frustrated and angry about the government forcing them to stay home for weeks on end is that they must be white supremacists. It’s impossible that people are genuinely frustrated at the financial strain, the isolation of being cut off from friends/family, possibly having even urgent medical procedures cancelled/delayed, missing out on graduations, holidays, or vacations they may have been looking forward to, etc. Nobody in the entire country is stuck at home with an abusive spouse that is getting worse under these circumstances. Nobody in the country is feeling overwhelmed by having their kids at home all the time.
Nope. It’s a gathering of white folks, after all, which is extremely rare in America under any other circumstance. We all know that the one thing that unites all white Americans is obsessively thinking about black people, and thinking of new ways that they can best fuck over black people some more, so that must be what they’re up to.

The pop culture use of “Let my people go” originates from the story of Moses in the Bible. It is quite likely that the person who made that sign was making a reference to the Biblical story rather than intending any kind of racial implication. The existence of many Biblical references in black spirituals doesn’t mean that people are not allowed to make Biblical references in other contexts.

I also strongly suspect that “Let my people go-olf” was intended to be a humorous play on words rather than a serious statement that he is actually only worried about golf.

If you use the right filters and only shoot in oblique sunlight, everybody looks white-ish.

Definitely astroturf. The Times has a long article today about how they are being egged on by conservatives. Not, incidentally, by Charles Koch. Which, give how bad oil is doing, surprises me.

I wonder what they would do if Trump ordered the lockdown.

Yesterday, one of my IRL friends posted a sign that said “LIBETY OR TRANNY” on her Facebook page. I replied, “That’s the pubic school system for you.”

The Kochs are of lawful evil alintment; they want to manipulate the government to support their businesses and agendas, but they aren’t trying to create chaos and unrest. Trump, on the other hand, is chaotic stupid. He’s what The Joker would be if that character lived on a diet of lead paint and scopolamine.

Kinda related, snopes rates it as “True” but admits it could be a spoof. Is This a Flyer for an 'End the Lockdown Rally'? | Snopes.com

My BFF’s college-age son applied for an internship at Koch Industries this summer. He didn’t make it past the first round, and in the meantime, pretty much everyone they spoke to said that if he was offered this internship, he should reject it no matter how much it paid, because (among other things) having that on his CV or resume’ could hinder his future career opportunities.

I also understand that the Wichita headquarters have a berm around the building that is about 15 feet high, with an opening only for the main entrance. Is that true?
