ad blocker for android

ok I have a problem ,

I need an adblocker that will block in game ads …

See last year my mentally disabled niece wanted a tablet like the other kids in the family has and instead of getting a kurio or one of those specifically made for kids my aunt bought hers through a qvc deal and it dosent have any of the child proof things on it

and youd be surprised how many kids games has ad services popping up ads … for example I put on a zoo animal puzzle game that positioned a link near the puzzle pieces that linked to some ron Jeremy endorsed penis pill !http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/images/smilies/eek.gif

Or the’ll post links for other games in which will take her to google play and shell end up watching videos from game ads all day

She did manage download on her own a diablo/rift ripoff called heroes of chaos which she likes because you don’t have to do anything in it … just set it to auto play and she just taps and I let her think shes playing … Only problem is Aun t didn’t know what it was and once she seen the comically over endowed amazon heroine with the barely there magical armor (every female is pretty much that way… even the nun/cleric …)and thought she was watching hentai or something

Ad block without the dedicated browser is a pain in the ass, requiring that you set up a proxy every time you power back on. And many games will simply not run if they detect their ads are blocked.

I’d recommend setting up a dedicated account with restrictions on it. Don’t think that’ll prevent watching a bunch of ads, though, unless maybe they’re above the esrb age threshold (I haven’t tested this, though maybe you can)

Does it have an Airplane Mode? You might try switching that on, if the games themselves don’t require access to the internet. Then the game can’t hit the internet to download ads.

Yeah, one of Android’s single biggest drawbacks is how much it was designed around push content and ads - to the point where only a custom-coded browser can really stop it without endless hassle. There are NO hooks for ad-blocking that can be accessed by plugins etc.

FYVM, Google…

Adaway is simply the best. It doesn’t use proxies–that doesn’t seem to work very well. It uses a hosts file.

Unfortunately, it needs root in order to work. And rooting your device can be tricky. Probably the easiest way is to get KingRoot. And it may require you to run it several times before it will actually work–rebooting the device each time in between. Plus it comes with an app called Purity, which I suggest you uninstall as soon as you get root.

Then install Adaway, and, when asked, be sure to Grant it root access. From there, it should be self-explanatory.

Except if you want to block ads on YouTube, as Adaway does not work for that. There are two solutions there–use Firefox with uBlock for YouTube. Or, if you are adventurous, install the Xposed Framework and YouTube Adaway (and install an older version of YouTube).

But you didn’t mention YouTube, so I won’t go into detail there. I will say I did it, and I love my ad-free Kindle Fire. Best $35 I spent in a long time.
