Ad: congratulations iPad user you just won $1000.

This ad is driving me nuts and there is no way out of it. I’m on an iPad and that pop-up comes before I can hit anything. When I hit close it goes to www.rightmartic.com. I cleared my cache and nothing worked. Finally I had to fill out the fricking form which included giving name and email. Does SDMB really allow such invasive ads?

Edit: I just got it again. Also get it on chrome. No way back to sdmb.

Why did you give your email? If an ad won’t go away without an email, just hit some keys at random, and say you are qwrhafpuyio@zxcdxbkjui.com

Oh I didn’t give it my real email. I can’t believe this site would allow such an invasive and persistent ad

Whoever’s at qwrhafpuyio@zxcdxbkjui.com is gonna be really pissed at you.

It’s not a case of the site allowing the ad. This site would not be aware of it until it’s reported, then they can take action against it. Unfortunately it’s impossible, or impractical, to screen every ad beforehand. You choose an ad supplier like Google or whatever and trust them to make sure the ads are OK, which unfortunately they can’t always do. Too many bad ads and you’d switch your ad supplier.

The bottom line is it’s always best to report intrusive ads or suspicious ads of any kind. (NB I am not a mod nor do I play one on television.)

Thanks for letting us know. I’ve reported the ad to our admins.

So why hasn’t the Dope switched? I’ve been getting this too and it sucks just as much as the OP says.

Is the Dope using “Russian Scammers From 1999-R-US” as their provider? Seriously, I get obnoxious banner ads and crap from other sites, but I’ve never seen the type of shit I get from the Dope’s provider.

I get the impression that we use every ad provider, because someone among the Powers that Be decided that it was always better to monetize a lot than to monetize a little. Which is why our ad providers include malware like Viglink.

I was wondering why I wasn’t plagued with Viglink. I thought it was no longer infesting the boards. Turns out, my Firefox “privacy.trackingprotection.enabled” setting not only turns off ads – all of which seem to want to do tracking – but it also disables the Viglink bullshit.

Thank YOU good sir.

This ad just came up again under rightnetwork.com

I’ve reported the ads new URL to our admins.

Thanks. I see this morning starredweb.com is another entrant in the free $1000 club.

means I don’t get those annoying ads

Thanks for the idea but this is the only website I get these annoying ads. I get pop-ups sometimes but they’re just an “x” away. To commit to a dedicated ad blocker browser for one website is a bit much.

I can’t install any adblock at work-that would be a corporate decision made in another country. I’m lucky they recently upgraded me to Windows 7 Enterprise, service pack 1, using Explorer 9. If anything happens to this machine they are more likely to just shut off my internet access completely to make the problem disappear.

Viewmedianext.com is another. They picked a real winner with this ad.

NoScript stops them all.
