Garfield 1- 2323
Garfield 1-2323!
Another one from the late 50’s (?) for Nifty notepaper binders (for school) that had two pegs at the top instead of three rings on the side.
“Take Nifty to school with you.”
Brylcreem, a little dab’ll do ya.
That’s what I came in here to mention as well. Guess all those hours of watching superhost and Lannigan hosting the afternoon movie payed off
The music for that ad was used all the time in the Addams Family series - I don’t know who stole from who.
From Stan Freburg’s Jenos Pizza Roll commercial, to the tune of the William Tell Overture:
Have a piece,
Have a piece,
have a piece of Pizza Roll.
which was also the music used for a Lark cigarettes commercial, which had a car driving down the street with a sign saying “show us your Lark pack.” Freberg had someone hold up a sign saying “show us your Pizza Roll pack.”
The spokesperson from the Lark commercial, lighting up a ciggy, goes up to a guy and says “I want to talk to you about that music.” Then Clayton Moore in Lone Ranger costume goes up to him and says “I want to talk to you about the same thing.”
Do you have Trouble?
Wait, don’t run.
This kind of Trouble is lots of fun.
Pop-a-matic pops the dice,
Pop a six and you move twice!
Race your men around the track
And try to send the others back.
Regards,
Shodan
The whole thing goes:
Brylcreem, a little dab’ll do ya,
Brylcreem, you’ll look so debonair.
But watch out, the gals will all pursue ya,
They love to get their fingers in your hair!
(hint: no, they don’t)
A local jingle for Grandma’s Cookies from the 50’s:
Go buy Grandma’s cookies,
Go try some right away.
You’ll love Grandma’s cookies,
You’ll eat them every day.
Yum yum yum yum
They’re so tasty
Better be hasty,
Buy Grandma’s at your grocer’s
Today!
And missred, it’s
Let’s all go to the lobby,
Let’s all go to the lobby,
Let’s all go to the lobby
And have ourselves a treat
(uses the tune of “for he’s a jolly good fellow” except with fewer syllables)
Roddy
Also for the Phlly Doper,
All the animals in the zoo are jumping up and down for you
Asking you to be sure to plan a trip to the zoo as fast as you can.
Storybooks that really talk, you turn on with a key
tell fascinating things about the animals you see.
Storybooks and zoo keys together guide you through
a world of new adventure awaits you at the zoo!
(early to mid 1960s)
I realize now that your fingers would be slick with grease, but back then I thought Kookie (who looked like he used a gallon of the stuff) was so cute!
That’s the one I came in this thread to post. To this day, that sometimes pops into my head and I will just burst into song, really building on the background lady’s crescendo.
I remember this one, from memory, so it may be wrong:
“Big mac, filet-o-fish, quarter pounder, french fries!
Icy coke, thick shake, sundaaaaee and apple pies!”
I also loved the O.B. jingle, and still will break that out to this day, harmonizing with my daughter, who only learned the song from me, since they’ve not played that commercial in decades.
When I was in the Navy, working long hours at sea, I would always start the day by saying “Time to make the donuts!” , from a very old Dunkin Donuts ad, as seen here:
You are so right, Roddy!
Reach out, reach out and touch someone.
Reach out, reach out and just say “hi”
May have run before. We got our first TV in '65(for parents 10th anaversary) so I couldn’t have seen it for '64 elections. Moved into our new house in '66 and that’s where I saw it so must have been '66 or later. Maybe it ran for off year elections.
Pete Ellis? What a great, great guy!
And in San Diego we had:
See Pearson Ford, they stand alone, at Fairmount and El Cajon!
Others:
A hundred thousand times a day…
(Well, maybe 99,999)
Someone lights up a Santa Fe!
No way! Somebody else remembers “Adee Do”? That’s great!
I used to say that all the time when I was a really little kid. I think it was my favorite commercial ever.
To the tune of “Fur Elise”:
*Oh how I wish I were already there,
Instead of here,
Playing this song,
I would have a big chocolate shake,
A cheeseburger,
And also -oops- and also fries.
And I would eat
The fries myself,
And not give any
To my dumb brother
They’re mine, they’re mine, all mine!
Oh boy, my recital is almost done,
It wasn’t bad,
I’m still alive,
And now I can have my chocolate shake,
My cheeseburger,
And also -oops- and also fries.*
From a 1986 McDonald’s commercial.
Another McDonald’s commercial from 1987. To the tune of “Mack the Knife”:
*When the clock strikes
Half past six, babe,
Time to head for
The golden lights
It’s a good time
for the great taste
Dinner!
At McDonald’s
It’s Mac Tonight!*
I remember him saying, “Come on, make it Mac Tonight!” at the end, although this YouTube version has him hawking a 99 cent Big Mac (!) instead.
