Adele to perform at Oscars + all six bonds to (maybe) appear together

Story here.

Adele is confirmed to perform “Skyfall” during the ceremony and rumor has it (see what I did there?) that her performance will be the centerpiece to a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Bond franchise, which may include all six actors to play Bond appearing together for the first time. Sounds fun!

It would be really cool to see all six Bonds together, but I wonder if they’ve already spoken to Sean Connery. I was under the impression that he was fairly determined to stay out of the spotlight for the rest of his life. It would be great to see him again, though.

All except one.

I think he’d do it for this.

Whereas I think he won’t. I just don’t see him showing up for a standing ovation at the Oscars for a brief stint standing in a row of other actors I am sure he feels are not equal to him or his legacy as Bond.

I might be wrong (and sort of hope I am, as I would love to see them all together for at least one photo-op) but my bet is that he will not make the schlepp to LA for this.

Maybe Lorne Michaels will offer him TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS! to make an appearance.

maybe we can tell him Trebek is selling penis mightiers there

Yea, I don’t think I’ve seen Connery quoted anywhere since his retirement where he didn’t seem kinda grumpy and wasn’t making it sound like he wanted to be left alone. I have trouble seeing him flying to LA to do fanservice for a franchise he hasn’t acted in in decades.

I’m not much of a fan of the francise, but personally I feel Connery used up all his potential ‘Bond-snobbery’ by doing the unauthorized (and incredibly lame) Never Say Never Again. Of course, that probably means absolutely nothing to a been-there done-that, hard drinkin’, wife-beatin’, legendary old Scotsman actor…

I thought you were going to link to the late Barry Nelson. And “one” certainly doesn’t apply to your version, where 3 of the James Bonds in that one have passed on.

I get the sense that he’s decided he doesn’t want to go through the work of making a full movie. But he doesn’t appear to mind doing occasional smaller projects. He did the voice of James Bond in a 2005 video game and he considered taking a supporting role in Skyfall, so apparently he’s not adamantly opposed to the Bond franchise. My understanding is his enmity was personal - it was Cubby Broccoli not James Bond that he didn’t like.

All I can picture is Connery asking the other Bonds “Who the hell are you people?”

Loved his first appearance on Letterman!

What was even funnier (though I can’t find it on YouTube) was the cold opening they did for this show. It opened in the dressing room with Dave greeting Connery with a handshake and Connery politely asking, “Who are you?” and Dave saying with mock-pretension, “The name’s Letterman. Dave Letterman” and Connery just says, “You are a complete idiot…” and Dave just feigning, “Oh, thanks…”
