Admit it, you've bought something from home shopping!

In this thread I admitted that one of my guilty television pleasures is QVC, the home shopping network.

Several people chimed in to say that they too enjoy watching QVC, but of course they’ve never actually purchased anything. One even went so far as to say that all the merchandise sold on QVC is cheap crap.

Well I’m here to proudly admit that I have bought merchandise from QVC, and not only is it not cheap crap, some of it is fantastic.

My current favorite piece of clothing – I won’t go anywhere without it – is my brown leather jacket from QVC.

Today I’m wearing a beautiful string of beads and an opal ring from QVC on which I’ve gotten many compliments.

My friend who stayed with me a few weeks ago gave rave reviews to my Aerobed from QVC.

So am I alone? Has anyone else ordered from QVC or another home shopping network? Did you like what you got?

Actually, I never have bought anything from one of those Home Shopping Club Shows, but I love watching. I can only watch when I go and visit my parents, because my TV doesn’t work (probably the only reason why I’ve never bought anything). I also honestly don’t want to get into debt, and I think it would be way too easy with that sort of thing to be, uh, fiscally unwise.

My favorite parts of those kinds of shows, and the only parts I ever watch, are the jewelry segments, because that is a total lifelong obssession with me. I swear, I could watch for hours, and sometimes do!

Back when I had cable I would buy from QVC.

I preordered Windows 95 and it arrived the day after the public release.

Purchased a radar detector which is in a box somewhere which I also got in 1995.

Ron Popeil Pasta Machine which I love. It’s loud but I have made some yummy pastas with it. But if you don’t get the consistancy just right, you have horrible pasta. Too dry and it doesn’t cook right, too wet and it clumps together in a big tacky ball in the water.

I used to love watching the cooking segments on Sunday mornings back in 1994 and 1995…haven’t had cable since November of 1995 so I stick to internet shopping.

have never, will never!

I never have. Course, I don’t have cable so it has been a long time since I even had an opportunity to do so. But when I did, five minutes on one of the shopping channels was like have having my eyeballs removed with a lemon zester.

I haven’t bought from QVC, but one night last year I got drunk while watching infomercials and bought the Euro-Slicer, the Modern Rock CD set, and called to purchase something else without knowing what it was; I just saw the number on the screen and dialed…turned out to be herbal Viagra.

[sub]im sooooo broke[/sub]

I bought one thing: a 1:18 scale VW Microbus. For MST3K fans, it’s the same one used for Mrs. Forrester’s “spaceship” when shown “flying”.

Got a nice gold and garnet tennis bracelet for the wife once and she got me a budweiser frog “cel” that hangs in the dining room. Love the place but it’s like ebay… very dangerous for the weak minded like myself that can sit and try and dream of reasons why I need the hydraulic super chicken deboning bread making ice cream milling drill press nail gun layered in 12K gold with genuine cabachon inlays.

Well, I bought a jacket, but since I worked at one of the shopping channels at the time, and I bought it in house, I guess that really doesn’t count. I was at the one with the screaming baseball card guys

My husband was sent to NYC for a year for training back in '91. So I had to quit my job at home. The townhouse we rented came with cable and it was there that I discovered the joy of QVC.

I bought a very nice blue topaz and gold ring for ~$150. I bought a citrine and diamond gold ring, but I returned it because it turned out to be too wide. I bought a beautiful, thick gold herringbone necklace for ~$100 which is still quite beautiful, esp. against a black turtleneck. It would retail for ~$300 today. But the day the vacuum sealer arrived was the day my husband decided I needed to get a job.

I’ve not only boughts stuff at Home Shopping Network, I worked there for a year. If you called to order something back in '95-'96, you may have spoken to me. The best thing about working there was the multitude of discounts. I managed to get a touch lamp for $2 (that includes shipping and handling) And I used it for 4 years. Not bad, if I do say so myself.

only once. i ordered a featherbed. i have no complaints, i love the thing, i lay down in bed and i sink. it’s great!
