Please stop them. They’re coming via something called JWPLayer. Started last night and happens about 90% of the time when going to a new page.

Not only playing automatically, but with no pause or mute button and automatically going on to another one after the first one finishes.
Is there a reason AdBlock is not a cure for these woes?
Assuming there is, would a greasemonkey or similar script that addressed the issue be acceptable, or is this the kind of complaint for which only weapons-grade kvetchery will do?
These are my issues and they are bothersome as hell.
From what I can see of the Google results, if I’m reading them right, JWPLayer is just a media player — not a host or anything. So more info might be needed to determine an actual source.

You should be able to disable JWPlayer - it’s an add-in so should be disableable:
In IE click Tools > add-ons > plugins > jwplayer > disable or start > control panel > add or remove programs > jwplayer > remove

This started happening right about the time the board started crashing regularly for me. Obviously something in the software isn’t playing nice with my firewall.

Not sure if it’s related to the issue in the OP, but on my iPhone, when I visit the SDMB, the App store automatically opens. This is new, and has happened only today.
It happens once in every 3-5 page visits. The App store opens on “Game of War - Fire Age”, and sometimes on some other app I now forgot.
Please make this stop.
This happens on my iPad too, despite me being logged in, though not as frequently as every 3-5 pages.
I use a mac, but I opt for chrome. It seems easier to handle these kinds of issues.
I do not have the plugin, but I did find this article describing how to handle add ins with safari.

Since I started using it, there are no auto-playing ads because there are no ads, and even more significantly, my IE browser no longer crashes when I visit the Dope because ads were causing the crashes.
I checked the link, it didn’t really help. I don’t have the plug-in, but they auto-play anyway.
The ads are scaring my cat. She’s old and I baby her. I guess I’ll have to stay away for a while. 
JWPlayer is a web-page thing, not an end-user thing.
