Advice from dopers: what would make this post better

Hi. I’ve been registered since april or may, but I haven’t posted that many threads. I posted this thread today : http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=53227

It has received 15 or so views but no responses. Is there something about the post that makes you say, “Jeez, I wouldn’t answer that baby if you paid me.” Any suggestions?

Give it time! All things come to those who wait.

You could always promise to send a dollar in the mail to everyone who posts in your thread.

P.S. You will notice that most threads have a very high “view to post” ratio. I don’t see that your thread is exceptional in that regard.

I know it hasn’t been so long. But in the past, I’ve posted things I thought might bring about a robust discussion and they just fizzled. I’m looking for a stylistic critique and a chance to improve my posting.

I guess I could make this more general and put it on IMHO. Something along the lines of, “Aside from obvious no no’s (like posting in the wrong forum) what bugs the hell out of you when you see it in an OP?”

The moderators are geniuses!!! Thirty minutes after the above was posted I have 3 replies. You didn’t put them up to it did you AW?

Maybe a clearer subject? Maybe mentioning something about the taste in there, rather than that there’s just a difference. If there are enough page views though, this isn’t the problem.

It might be that people tend to answer simply asked questions more readily than general “do you have a comment on this?” posts. It’s relatively difficult to skim your post to find out what you want to know. If your question is, “Why does water boiled in the microwave taste different than water boiled on the stove?”, you should probably ask that.

Thanks smackfu. that’s right along the lines of what I’m looking for. Thanks for the link in the OP that this thread refers to as well
