No, but you did say this, which certainly implies it:
And this:
Also, this:
I’m really open to, and looking forward to, your cites and references to back up what frankly appear to be whacko statements. I’m serious, not being sarcastic at all. My mind has been changed on many topics over the years upon learning more about a topic. But this one seems hopeless. (How does one check “for body toxicity”, for starters?)
So how did YOU, personally, lose the 117 lbs? Have you any tips for the OP’s friend?
I followed his complete regimen. Which is pretty much everything I stated in my original post.
Prior to that I went through with a lap band surgery but I subsequently lost my health insurance and never got the band filled with any fluids so it is an empty band. Only a
Couple times when I attempted to eat a lot very fast have I felt any restriction at all.
The drops you can put in water to make it oh balanced is not by itself going to make anyone lose weight. And saying that my father helps people with weight loss, supplements, and nutrition are all desperate entities. No supplements (pills) are involved in the weight loss plan. The water drops are included with the weight loss products but aren’t by themselves going to make you loose weight and there are other drops that some people receive that are hcg drops but not every patient is eligible for that portion and with those drops you still have to follow a diet and exercise regimen.
I’m not feeling very well so looking up the sites and re typing the studies from my fathers study folder does not sound fun to me. I’m going to take a short rest and then I will be back either this evening or in the morning if I conk out for the night.
Yet on the last page you wrote:
So you have just admitted that you recommended that the OP’s friend try supplements that you know don’t work. Why?
I think that proper wording should be “has a set of pjs” or “has pjs” and not sure what he sleeps in has to do with it. He could sleep naked to prevent diabetes and that is fine by me. (Okay, sorry, I know that was meant to be phD.)
You’d be amazed how many otherwise brilliant people buy into all sorts of goofy stuff so really, don’t take it personally on your or your father’s behalf. Linus Pauling won not one but two Nobel Prizes but that didn’t stop him from embracing and promoting a bunch of megavitamin and supplements pseudoscience hooey, the vitamin C bit only being the most well known. So your pops has good company.
He doesn’t sell Isagenix does he? Here’s how someone asking about that recently went down.
Allow me to add this Quackwatch piece to chiroptera’s excellent selection of skeptic’s resources.
Oh for the love of…
You had gastric banding!. Yes, you have an “empty band” but it still does restrict your eating. That does not take away from the fact that it is HARD to lose that much weight even with surgical assistance and most people could not do it (which is why the band usually is filled). However, I still believe it is irresponsible for you to recommend supplements that you have admitted have not been shown to work.
You are putting a lot of words into my mouth. I tried all those things and they DID work for me. Hgh and dhea are not drops or pills. They are topical creams.
I am frankly not feeling very welcome in this thread, and was not looking for an argument or great debate. I just wanted to add some tips that I know worked well for me. I’m considering taking quite a bit of time out to lay this all out for you guys, but I really don’t see why I should take my own time out when I am just being berated, misquoted, and represented every-time I try to explain anything. I don’t really have the patience for being mistreated (IMHO) when I was attempting to be helpful.
Bolding mine.
My best friend had the sleeve surgery in early December, and I am her “procedure partner” during the whole process so I think I am pretty hip on the procedure. I do not understand your comment about filling the band with fluids.
Frankly I have no idea what you are attempting to convey here. "Desperate entities"are your words, not mine - you were the one who said your dad sells supplements and what-not to aid in weight loss. Your words, not mine. What the hell are water drops and “hgc drops”? Why are some people “not eligible”? What is different about these folks? Why isn’t simply following a “diet and exercise regimen” not enough?
I am still looking forward to your cites and research materials, thanks!
Jeez. All ANYONE is asking for is a cite or two to back up your statements. Since you are so sure of your position and your dad is a doctor and all, this should be very dead easy for you.
Yet, still, no cites or references. ![]()
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you cannot find a single cite that won’t be derided and laughed at here, which is why you are stonewalling. You have an audience of people who are open and willing to learn, yet you’re giving us bupkiss besides selfies and “my dad is some sort of doctor.”
Sorry. that really doesn’t fly here. As you were told repeatedly in your GQ and ATMB threads. Hard evidence, or you are talking out of your ass. Really. You can redeem this if you have the evidence. DO YOU?
NM
You seem to be drawing a distinction between “drops” “pills” and “creams”. Let us just call all of these “supplements” You are recommending various types of supplements. All we are asking is for evidence that they have any effect on weight loss (other than in the wallet). I am glad that they apparently worked for you but your anecdotal report is not data. If you have data I would greatly appreciate seeing it.
Chiroptera:
The gastric band and the gastric sleeve are two difference procedures. The gastric band is a silicone band that restrics the opening to the stomach creating a small upper pouch. It can be filled with fluid so that the size of the opening is adjustable. The gastric sleeve actually involves sectioning off a portion of the stomach to create the pouch. comparison.
I looked up DHEA on the Mayo Clinic site, and it does say that “Evidence suggests that DHEA may help treat depression, obesity, and osteoporosis.” WebMD also discusses its use for obesity, but stresses that more study is needed to confirm the findings. It also lists a dreadful list of possible side effects - it is a hormone, after all.
So she’s not talking completely out of her ass on that one. It does seem pretty crazy to recommend someone take hormones before that someone has even tried the most basic and obvious things like increasing the intensity of her exercise, however.
HGC is another story. According to the American Society of Bariatric Physicians,“…the use of HCG should be regarded as an inappropriate therapy for weight reduction…” Read the “HGC Diet” section. It’s good for a laugh.
Moving on to HGH (Human Growth Hormone) This one’s even worse. As per WebMD, “Further, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists has warned that the use of HGH for obese patients is not recommended.” A little further down, it stresses that HGH is only effective when injected, and that “pills and powders” don’t work. JLynn said she was recommending a topical cream with HGH.
So, things were looking at least little more optimistic for JLynn’s recommendations after the DHEA thing, but then took a hell of a nosedive.
Not to mention that chiropractor shouldn’t be dispensing these powerful drugs without blood tests and medical supervision he can’t provide.
I didn’t have a sleeve. It’s gastric banding. The band is in place but it’s empty for the lap band they put the empty band in and then there is a port right under your skin in your abdomin. They use that port and inject saline to make it more tight or more loose everyone’s perfect for is different but mine is empty so I feel little to no restriction when eating.
OK, and thanks to you and psychobunny for giving me the distinction between sleeve and lap band surgery.
I’m still waiting for answers to the other questions. I’m guessing JLynn does not have those answers so it will be a long and pointless wait. Pretty much what I expected. Oh well. My opinion on detoxing from body lotion or whatever remains unchanged: HORSE SHIT.
Damn, I was hoping for some better material here. JLynn still refuses to answer questions and educate the masses. Why is that, do you think?
Well, according to post #83, she’s not feeling well. Perhaps she needs to detox.
Or relief from chronic subluxations.
Maybe because she’s a newbie and is feeling piled on?
I wouldn’t want to continue with it, either. I’m a skeptic, but interested in what she has to say. I’m sure there’s *something *useful to be learned from what she might’ve posted. It’s too bad she was shut down before she even had the chance.
Congrats on the weight loss and getting healthier, JLynn. Here’s hoping you continue to be successful!
In JLynn’s defense … this is IMHO not GQ or GD. She’s offered things that she believes has worked for her and she trusts her parents as sources of reliable information. And she is new and it seems both fairly sensitive to being criticized or challenged and not well equipped in critical thinking skills … yet.
In this board’s defense … little tolerance for pseudoscience and asking for evidence for that which we (to put it most generously) doubt is one of the main defining features of this board’s culture probably even in MPSIMS. “Cite please” is as common here as “Amen” is in churches for a reason. We have faith in doubt.
Perhaps our newish poster will learn to embrace critical thinking and not just believe things because a parent has told it to her, and with practice learn to state that which she can defend and how to do that without wilting. There are few places I think that can help show how that is done better than here. If we end up helping her learn those “habits of mind” we have done her a service, I think. If being challenged when she repeats false information that she has been told is going to be too much for her to handle then maybe she needs to just lurk for a week or so and observe. We do her no service by pretending that spouted off malarkey is anything else.
That was my guess too, but don’t be too sure that she wasn’t talking about pajamas. Besides Dr. OZ promotes them, so there!
Highly recommend that Quackwatch link as well.
JLynn, congrats on your weight loss despite a lot of bad advice having come your way, you still managed to do it. Probably best you not bring up those cites promoting detox or that other stuff you brought up. Do a search engine on the dope to see how previous threads have gone.
