I am not a person who’s terribly knowledgeable about disco (or italo-dance as the case may be), but I was doing one of those long meandering YouTube chains today… you know, where you just keep on clicking stuff boredly until what you end up on is nothing at all like what you were originally watching? Well anyway, I ended up on some videos for… Aerobicise.
Anyone else who was of an impressionable age in the early 80s may remember these as a series of aerobics videos starring attractive female dancers with incalculably permed hair gyrating sexily in front of a softcore director’s camera. Anyways, one song in particular has stuck in my mind, and after half a day of desperate searching I’ve narrowed down a few facts.
The song in question is in this video (caution: video content of questionable work-safeness, and the audio has some tempo issues in the first minute). It appears to be a remix of “The Hills of Katmandu” by Tantric (original track).
I really like this remix version used in Aerobicise, but my google-fu has failed me utterly in identifying the remix artist. I can’t find any sources for it whatsoever except two copied-from-VHS YouTube videos. Can anyone possibly identify this? I’m wondering if it even exists in album form somewhere. In a related note, can music ever become… “abandonware”?
