Unfortunately for me, I will never forget Afroman. He had a record out about 15 years ago that had the previously mentioned song, and the song was featured in one of those Jay and Silent Bob movies. The record was entertaining in a Cheech and Chong meets rap kind of way. A lunatic hippie that I worked midnights with at the time wanted to come by after work to smoke bongs, drink beer, and turn me on to Afroman. Fine, I had no plans. I got home that day and big news was on the radio. I turned on my tv in time to see the 2nd plane, live, hit the 2nd WTC tower.
When lunatic hippie showed up with his bong and his Afroman cd, he didn’t understand why I no longer felt like grooving to his new tunes. So, I will never forget Afroman.

Yes, you’ve just exactly described why what you said was racist. You saw the word Afro, and decided to insult the guy by calling his hair nappy. The word nappy is a negative term to refer to unkempt, unmaintained hair, and has been commonly used as a derogatory term against black people.
You cannot claim to not know this, as we had this discussion when Don Imus used “nappy-headed hos.” In fact, I’m pretty sure you were directly referencing that comment, since it’s not like you normally use the word “nappy.”
