I was just sitting here reading the Dope, kind of wishing I had some chocolate for after dinner. Came upon this thread and was like “oh yeah! Sales!”
So I ran to Walgreens, and bought the last 4 things they had. Butterfinger eggs, a bag of mixed-filling chocolate eggs, chocolate-covered marshmellow bunnies and something else I can’t recall (I left it in the car for now lol)
What I really wanted was Crunch eggs but beggars can’t be choosers. They literally had these 4 bags of things and then a bunch of big chocolate bunnies.
My local Target actually had a good enough deal on Creme eggs before Easter that I stocked up on enough to get me through to June. That seems like enough.
Once my sister in New England sent me a big box of peeps she’d bought cheap after the holiday, and staled for me. Problem was she sent them to me in Arizona. In August. And the mailman put the box where I never saw it until she inquired.
So of course they were sticky globs of peep guts.
HOWEVER!!! I let them sit 6 mos. or so, and they were back to lovely Peep staleness.
On the eastside of Indianapolis the stores no longer sell marked-down post-Easter candy (or post-Christmas candy, etc.) You can buy discounted Easter baskets, Easter grass, plastic eggs, but not the candies. They’re all packed up the day after Easter and sent away somewheres.
Here in SoCal the Wal*Marts are open 24 hours so I stopped in on my way to work Monday morning, before 6am. There were already at least half a dozen people pawing through the discounted stuff, most of them with carts FULL of candy. I don’t know if they eat it or hoard it or ebay it, but apparently you have to get up EARLY to be able to score anything worthwhile.
