Again with the annoying commercials!

XStream internet has a commercial “No Drama” with a young teen girl “complaining” about how good her internet has become. I’m on the fence as to whether I like this commercial or hate it. I’m voting “hate it” because it’s missing a single word at the end that would have made it a great commercial. The word: “Yes!”

Volkswagen has a new feature that starts the car when driver sits down. I hate the feature more than I hate the commercial but I hate the commercial too. And I hate the parenting and the kid is ugly. (well maybe not that last part)

I think the kid is adorable and the commercial is very cute… until the wife taps on the window with a look of “How dare you bond with our daughter and make her laugh?! There is no room in our lives for joy; now go do that soul-sucking errand I’ve sent you on.”
I hate her, and that’s what makes me hate that commercial.

I am not sure about “cute”, but yeah the wife is a piece of work.

This is one of the annoying commercials for Upwork, a website to recruit employees. The old guy in the commercials is supposed to be decrepit, but he’s actually a bit horrifying. (I thought they were going for zombie rather than decrepit.) I just spent a couple of weeks with my parents, whose TV is usually tuned to CNN or CNBC, where these commercials air all day long.

They clearly are going for “zombie” (“♫ ♪ ♬ The old way of working is deader than me… ♩ ♬ ♪”)

I hate that commercial, I hate the song, but I really hate the sound of that kid’s laugh.

Funny, that commercial sent me on a George Michael jag on Spotify. He wants to be my father figure.

“In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have tried to take out my own appendix.”

A man is being taken out of his house by paramedics as his wife looks on.

I deem this commercial ineffective because, though I have seen it at least ten times, I can’t remember the product or service that is being advertised. And it gives me the creeps to envision a person cutting open their own abdomen.

You may find this interesting: Chilling: The story of a surgeon who cut down his own appendix - DailyRounds

Yes, this true story of a self-appendectomy is fascinating. Thanks for linking to it.

Wasn’t there also a woman in Antarctica who performed some kind of surgery on herself related to breast cancer (with help from a surgeon at another location)?

Found it! (Gift Link from the New York Times)

Reminds me of this Stephen King story of a surgeon stranded on a completely desert island with no life at all - with a kilo of heroin. He gets awfully hungry…

There’s an animated commercial for some sort of drug, but I don’t remember which one. There’s a scene at a campsite where a woman is chopping a log for firewood. She puts the axe over her shoulder with a satisfied look. Every time, I think ‘OK, now she goes back to her family and chops them up.’

Wood is a poor practice substitute for the human body.

How do you know?

:zipper_mouth_face:

Do not watch the movie “Ronin”.

Vincent: Are you sure you can do this?

Sam [Preparing to perform surgery on himself] Yeah. I once removed a guy’s appendix with a grapefruit spoon.

Then there is the surgery scene in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World one guy held a mirror angled so Stephen could see what he was doing to himself.

Thanks. I hadn’t thought of that story in a number of years.

Welp - there goes any hope for a good, restful sleep for the next couple of months.

Haha!
