Again with the annoying commercials!

oh ok i thought it was around here because for the commercials I see they use a well known LA TV announcer

They have stores in Southern California but they’re not from there.

Before she moved in with us, my MIL would call us (in Maryland) from Florida asking if we were OK during a tornado/rain storm/blizzard/ whatever that she saw on the Weather Channel, even if it only affected New England. Even now, she panics over storms that are too far away from us to affect us, and if anyone even whispers the word hurricane she needs to know where it is and if it will hit us. So, yeah, there are people who are that obsessed.

Oh My Bob is having a sale on couches. I can only think of one thing when they mention couches…

OTOH, in 1992, there was a tornado in Wisconsin that made national news, and my coworkers asked me if it affected my mom. And I’m like, sheesh, Wisconsin is a big state, what are the odds? Turns out, 100%.

I’m willing to be the horrible person who steps up to complain about this one: St. Jude has a new, super long commercial. The content is the same - sad story about a child with a horrible disease - but the music makes my skin crawl. It features a breathy female singer, but the vocal track sometimes splits into two or more tracks before merging back into one. [Maybe this is just a problem with my TV.] The worst part is the freakin’ xylophone that’s played on top of the music. I suppose it’s meant to evoke the sweetness and innocence of nursery rhymes, but the key is just a tad ~off~, and the longer it plays the more I’m convinced they ripped it from the soundtrack of an old horror movie.

That’s Christina Perri.
The song is a lullaby. But they use it horribly.
Doesn’t fit.

And Oh My Bob is on TV in Arkansas too. The closest store to Arkansas is in Colorado. Duh.
I won’t be driving over to look at a new end table Bob. Sorry. Too much of a drive.
I’m pretty sure I’m beyond your delivery limits too.

I wonder why they would waste Ad money here. The commercial is on 50 times a day, easy.

I just saw the commercial and thought of this thread. One thing I wondered is, where did she move to-- North Korea? When they show the outside shot of her apartment building at the end, that is some brutalist damn architecture.

The thing I hate about that commercial is the crazy over-acting.

I’m lonely, what do I do. What’s that? A tree on the TeeVee. That gives me inspiration (cue widening eyes)
Amazon! Of course! I’ll order things. (cue sitting up in bed).
What is this mysterious tool that I don’t know if I’ll every figure out how to use. Lord bless this water squirter bottle (cue slack mouth).
Oh no. I don’t know how to grow plants (cue drooping head over empty pot full of dirt)
Amazon! Of course! I’ll order more things (cue determine look of fortitude)
My plants are growing (cue slight lifting of only one side of mouth).
I have plants all over my balcony! (cue knowing smirk while staring off into the distance - a look that must be mastered by every commercial actress ever, whether you’re sipping a cup of coffee or applying Preparation H to your bung-hole).

Urine stains? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

On the topic of “Oh my Bob,” how does everyone feel about the little mascot/puppet guy?

Seeing the little guy doesn’t freak me out, but I don’t think I would want to find him bouncing around on my furniture.

Good to know, and I agree!!

That little puppet is a representation of Bob Kaufman, the founder of the company. Before he sold the company, he would appear in the commercials.

That’s actually neat…sort of how the Empire flooring guy switched over to an animated version of himself.

That’s another thing that advertises here and there’s no place in Arkansas.

Why is that a thing? Wouldn’t ad money be better spent where you actually can get customers?

Progressive Becoming Your Parents

I don’t understand this ad campaign. How does it apply to insurance? Why is getting older and transitioning into a parent with responsibilities undesirable?

The tone and condescending attitude bugs me.

I usually like commercials Progressive. The Flo ads lasted for several years.

I still like them, just for trying to be funny. I’m not taking them too seriously.

Empire Carpet? My impression is that they don’t actually have physical stores but instead send someone to your house with a collection of carpet or flooring samples in their car trunk. It’s a great way to cover a large area without the expense of a store location.

Oh. Did not know that.
My son called them for a quick turnaround carpet install. They said they had no place here. I took it to mean no stores. Could’ve been not in their selling area or something.

Still they advertise. Incessantly.

(Home Depot would sell him carpeting but had no installers. He went to a localish place, they were out in two days)

It’s one of those places where you call a central number and they send an independent contractor out . And those people are not necessarily going to reach as far as a TV/Radio station - there is a local sports network in my area that reaches four states but it’s unlikely a single Empire location is going to cover that whole area. It’s at least four hours from one side to the other.

Yeah, there was one where the dude was BBQing and the asshole came up and ordered him to go inside and take off his funny apron. I would have told him to fuck himself.
