My only problem with that one is that the Bibberty Mutual guy is shown reading a newspaper, which seems inconsistent with his general idiocy.
Corona commercial were they say “playa” means beach and also Corona works too. No it doesn’t. “Corona” means crown. It’s not even close. It isn’t a clever play on words. It’s just dumb.
Kind of an odd minor thing probably, but what bothers me about the commercial is that the woman is reading the floating legalese text from behind it, meaning she’d have to be reading text that is backwards.
The camera even shows this to be true briefly, at the end when it pans around to just behind and to her left when we can see what she sees, and the text is indeed backwards.
I can’t help it. I like that one. The kid making fun of the dumb dude by saying, “Ha! He said bibberty!”
It’s funny. And I always say Liberty Bibberty when it comes on. ![]()
Will Farrell is being an annoying jackass in a commercial set on an airplane.
Oh yeah, he’s back. And my mom is still annoyed at the commercials for making her beloved, sensitive soap opera hunk look like an idiot.
She does like the emu though.
So, Will Ferrell is in an ad on an airplane?
Just saw a commercial for Linzess, an anti-IBS drug.
A car pulls up next to a woman. The woman driving is her twin.
Woman 1: “who are you?”
Woman 2: “I’m future you. Don’t worry about it. Get in!”
Woman 1: “uh…okay.”
Has she never seen the movie Looper?!?
The word just irks me when it comes out of Kegbreath and that pugnacious little press secretary.
There are a series of commercial for Grainger products (that I’ve seen so many of and still am not sure of what they are) about people being heroes working with their products. In one, the narrator starts with “This is the story all about how. . .” and I have no idea what this hero story is about because every single time it comes on, I hear in my head-- “my life got flipped, turned upside down.”
This is not the failing of the commercial, though. This is a failing of my brain.
Oops, wrong forum ![]()
I think there are those of us of a certain age that would find it impossible to hear those words without getting derailed! ![]()
In a former office job, I was talking to a coworker in his cube once, and he happened to mention that he was from West Philadelphia.
Me: Born and raised?
Coworker: Yep.
Me: is the playground where you spent most of your days?
He was puzzled, not getting the ref, and said “uh, I guess so?” Meanwhile the woman in the cube next to him overheard and started laughing out loud.
That could NOT have been the first time someone asked him that question and this is how he has chosen to deal with all the dad jokers out there.
I mean, I was surprised too. One would think that being from West Philadelphia, that would be their regional theme song. But he seemed genuinely puzzled and unaware of the reference; I had to explain it to him.
It is a theme song about Bel-Aire, which mentions Philly once. That Sitcom stopped in 1996, nand of course a lot of people didnt watch it.
It’s a song about a guy born and raised in West Philadelphia, who gets in an altercation on the playground in West Philadelphia, and takes his West Philadelphia attitude and sensibilities to Bel Aire. So the song is not just “about Bel-Aire”.
I didnt say it was. I said
And here it is-
In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys
Who were up to no good
Startin making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said ‘You’re movin’ with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air’
But still- not everyone saw that Sitcom.
Thank you for proving my point for me. More than half the lyrics of the song as it appeared on the show took place in… West Philadelphia.
I’m a little surprised nobody has mentioned this one yet (either that, or the SDMB search engine needs work): the Liberty Mutual commercial with the 2-year-old and the “Bibberty Mutual” guy
I hate the Liberty Mutual ads in general, but this one specifically is beyond annoying.
