Again with the right hand hair part for men

Left parter. It’s either because I’m right handed or started doing that when I was very young. In high school I parted in the middle for a while because that was the thing, but I never could find a natural part that way.

Godwin’s Law: Hitler parted his hair on the right.

My father was left-handed and parted his hair on the left; same with me. He too thought men parted left, women right. He hated it when I parted my hair in the middle. Switched back to left when a German girl friend insisted men part on the left, unless Hitler.

Gregory Peck was a right parter.

Huh, Paul Newman too.

Note, both very old photos. I still think it used to be a more common part, then fell out of favor.

I’ve always parted on the left (right-handed). A barber once told me I was wrong, because the hair grew the other way. I didn’t change.

Me too; it just lays better if I part it on the right.

First off I must say that I don’t believe I’ve ever taken notice of which side anyone’s hair is parted on and never heard the theory about right side parts for men.
I agree with those that posited that most people part on the opposite side of their dominant hand but what would make more sense is if people part it on whichever side works with their particular hair. I’ve been parting my hair on the right side for several years now and not only do I not remember why, I’m pretty sure I’ve switched it up over the years but couldn’t tell when / why I’ve switched each time. Just don’t part it down the middle. Dear lord, why does anyone think that looks good.

I’m in the Bernie Sanders school of hair style. Just cut it once in a while and ignore it.

Hah! My bone-straight, greasy, fine hair laughed at all attempts to manage it in the past. Now, there’s not enough up there to consider it a part at all.

So no parts here. It just flopped around, then left. Fun while it lasted.

Next time I pick through the mug shots of the folks my great-grandfather served time with (it has before and after induction shots, circa 1916), I’ll see if I can get a gauge on whether it was more common to part right, left or middle. IIRC, the middle was strangely prevalent, but that might just be because I wasn’t used to seeing a middle part with hair treatments.

However, since the original question appears to have been prompted by a TV show, I’d bet the real answer lies with which part the show’s hairstylist and costume designer thinks they look better with.

I seem to recall seeing a lot of middle parters in the late 1800’s. Think cowpoke with greasy hair and a white part down the middle.

Thanks to my dumb thread, I bet you’ll take note of hair parts now.

Bwa, ha, ha, haa

Left-handed, part on left. It took me years to figure out a hair style after I cut my (belt-length) hair. Now I just keep it pretty short.
