Age, I thumb my nose at you!

Turned 49 today. Went on the 34 mile bike ride. So there! Thbthbthbth!

Yeah? Well, my dad is 55 and he’s finishing up his century ride as I type this. So he could totally beat you up.

Probably me, too. You old people never did learn to age gracefully. Always riding bikes around, exercising and the like. Haven’t you ever heard of dignity?! Nice job, man.

That’s 238 in dog miles!

I hope I’m like this. My dad was a naturally athletic guy, one of those extremely rare guys that ate whatever he wanted and never worked out but somehow had 6-pack abs and big pecs. He joined the Marines right out of high school and ran 3 miles in 17:45 without ever having run before. He never had to work out and didn’t see the point in it. Good genes, I guess. It started to catch up with him around 40, though. I wouldn’t say he’s “fat” now, but he’s soft - 6’2", 240ish - still doesn’t work out and still eats whatever he wants, and he’s 53.

Me? I’m the opposite. I’ve had to work my ass off for the modicum of physical fitness I have. I’m lifting weights, running, biking, hiking, swimming, etc, for years and I’m not even in the same league of fitness as my dad, or my brother for that matter.

But hopefully, since I know how important it is, and I know how easily I can neglect physical activity and become a wet noodle of a man, I’ll stick with it into my 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. Right now I’m all set to exit my 20s in better shape than I entered them, which I think is rare.

Keep it up, JustThinkin’.

Way to go! I just turned 44 and backpacked the Lost Coast Trail - 25 miles of beach sand, rocks and mountains - in two and a half days. It’s good not to taper off.

Yeah!! Of course, in dog years I’m dead.

I turn 49 in a couple of weeks and I tell you I am going kicking and screaming into my 50’s! I am in good shape for my age, but my personal goal is to be the fittest I have been by my 50th birthday!

Congrats on the bike ride. I am right there with you–screw off old age!
