I was 14.
I seem to recall the girls in high school starting to become candy stripers as part of their vocational education when they were freshmen or sophomores in high school.
But I think you have to be at least 18 to become a candy stripper in most states.
What’s a candy striper?
A young girl (or guy I guess) who is being introduced into the Nursing profession thru hands on training. Sort of like an apprentaship.
Volunteer nursing assistant, usually a teenage girl with an interest in the profession.
Out of curiosity, with the upsurge in recruiting male nurses in recent years, is there a similar program for boys with an interest in nursing?
