During a conversation on global warming someone told me to go read up on “Agenda 21.” I recall some conspiracy theory about the UN seizing our homes and forcing us to live in tiny apartment buildings (or something like that), but how does that link to global warming?
Is there something new to the “Agenda 21” conspiracy or do I misunderstand it?
The conspiracy theorists claim that Agenda 21 is a cover for establishing a global progressive socialist order under the guise of protecting the environment. Google “ecosocialism” if you want TMI.
The short answer is that, no, there is nothing to the Agenda 21 conspiracy. For one thing, when was the last time that the United Nations was effective at anything? Secondly, it’s a voluntary, non-binding agreement. Read it yourself, here.
Ah, the wonderful world of internet conspiracy theories, where a voluntary agreement that includes suggestions about sustainable development becomes an Illuminati plan to seize your energy-guzzling home and make you live in a Soviet gulag. I’ll save energy by not inserting a rolly-eyes smiley here.
Minor threadjack, but whenever I hear anyone think they’re pointing out hypocrisy in conspiracy theories by saying “C’mon. There were REPUBLICAN leaders involved in this initially! Haw haw haw” hasn’t really listened to many salacious conspiracy theories.
Those who look for Stonecutters around every corner are, generally, not of the sort to say one party’s squeaky clean and the other’s in everything. Rather, the average “North American Union” / Bilderberger watchdog thinks everyone is no damn good.
This depends on the particular conspiracy. Secret aliens amongst us, for example, could be either party. UN take over, environmental stuff, etc. is going to be the Democrats. Banks controlling everything is more likely the Republicans (unless of course it’s the Jewish bankers then it’s traditionally Dems).
